Played this bass at my jam band originals rehearsal yesterday and boy oh boy I had fun with it. I have a gig coming up in March here in Seattle and I think it will get the nod, It's an ABI with the Glock and series/parallel switches.

So many of you over the years have posted some amazingly beautiful Dingwalls and they are super fun to view. I can say in all honesty, I found the perfect Dingwall for me. It took 19 months from order to delivery and I couldn't be happier. I've owned it for around 2 years now and every time I pick it up, it's a joy to play.

My hope is that all of you out there enjoy playing your Dingwalls as much as I do.

Beautiful, love the black Speedo bars with the 12th fret D on the maple neck. That is a sweet look!

I just took the time this weekend to play around with pickup configurations on my D-Roc.
I made a 3-way rotary switch with reconfigurable pickup combinations (using DIP switches) plus additional internal series/parallel switches for each pickup.
Each of the three selector positions can be configured to:
- bridge solo
- middle solo
- neck solo
- bridge/middle parallel
- bridge/neck parallel
- middle/neck parallel
- bridge/middle series
- bridge/neck series
- middle/neck series
- all 3 pickups (D-Roc style)

So far, my personal favorites are (all pickups internally in series):
- of the soloed pickups, middle is the best balanced to my ears
- in series, I like bridge/neck the best (neck/middle is much darker but also nice)
- of the parallel, bridge/middle is my preferred choice

The DIP switches can be accessed from the back

Definitely a public gig.

The show is on Thursday, March 13 at Conor Byrne in Ballard. It's a three band lineup and I actually get to play in two of the bands. First is my band Crash Site where I will play my American Vintage II '54P. Then, next is Bones Creek where I will be playing the Dingwall. Should be a really fun show. If you are in the Seattle area that night and want to see some live, original music, I'd love to see you.

Ah, dang. Ballard on a weeknight is probably 2.5 hour drive :(. I'll see what I can do though!

It's a tight fit, but no extra routing was needed. I just took the opportunity to cover the whole cavity with some copper tape leftovers.

Not much modification needed:
  • pickup wires were on screw terminals on the original switch, so simply unscrew
  • I had to separate the individual pickup wires before connecting them individually on the new screw terminals
  • the two wires for output and ground had to be unsoldered from the original switch PCB and are here on a screw terminal
  • no drilling/routing

Hey folks! Just got my first Dingwall in on Saturday - D roc 5 - Is there any way to make the B string tighter? Should I get a thicker gauge string? Maybe I'm not used to 5 string basses but find it hard to play with my pick in my typical aggressive fashion. Perhaps a setup should be in order, since it was shipped in the cold weather

If it's your first 5 string, you're definitely going to have to learn and woodshed on it a bit. It's going to play and feel differently than a 4 string no matter what you do. Thankfully you've picked the best platform for 5 string playing, so it's mostly just going to be a matter of putting the time in than anything else.

Are you playing in B standard tuning? You could go heavier strings if you want, but, that'd be... unusual :D
