I was just thinking that you don't see white AB's often (or at all). That satin white AB looks great!
I visited Long and McQuade today (after I had confirmation on some DWs there)...they must have meant Dingwall STRINGS!! :*(
Nuthin!!! Waste of a trip ...but I bought my daughter a Clarinet though...so ONE of us was happy. Lol

Hello all - anyone out there using flats on a Combustion? Any flats that fit a 37" Dingwall B aside from TI Jazz flats?
Close to taking the plunge on a V4 Combustion. I prefer flats, but since I have seen many say the Dingwall strings really bring out the best in these bases, I'll probably give the Dingwall nickels a try. My only other hesitation with this bass is that I know it won't be long before I'll also want a Super P

You should take off Thursday morning and head to Markham Ontario Canada...(Long and McQuade store)....it's not more than two hours from Niagra Falls....the Dingwall owner will be there showing off his gear....I'm sure he will be able to answer every single question you may ever have. Plus you'll get to see two of his masterpieces....looks like an amazing company to deal with.
Off topic: I've come to realize, that you only live once, and if there's something that you greatly enjoy and it lets your mind escape the harsh reality of everyday stresses, then it's money well spent! Some people turn to booze...some people turn to drugs, and some people turn to Drs and psychiatrists....if you turn to music, and spend your money "enjoying" the life you are living, then it's not money wasted.
I have recently got into this passion, and as a true confession...I suck at playing... BUT....I bust my b@lls working 50-60hrs/week (self employed) JUST to keep food and clothes on my wife and two little girls.....but this is MY stress release! If ever there was a way for me to afford a custom bass guitar...and I mean a kick a$$, holy craphola is that for REAL??? type of reactions...it would be a Canadian built custom Dingwall, hands down! ......

I admire your passion - keep thumpin' my brother and quirrel away some funds for that day when you find a pre-loved (or new!) one that will 'do it' for you!

+1, and another positive note....while many here own multiple Dingwalls the odds of finding a bad one are pretty impossible, it's very possible a single purchase will set you up for a lifetime.
I got my first job to buy myself a Combustion. This was to be an epic feat for a third world country citizen. By the time I saved enough money to buy one (and cover shipping, customs etc) they were not out yet. So I continued saving, eventually got myself a used AB-II instead

Some of us aren't exactly one side fanboys, and appreciate the many good thing in life, take me for example I own 3 of the nicest Dingwall basses but I can't keep my hands off the other 4 beauties that I own and each has it's precise use in context with what I need to play at the time... see below:

Yup...those are some sweet bass guitars!!....I need to see hear and feel those Dingwalls.....luckily, this thursday could be that day! Although having said that, I have a stunning bass, enroute as we speak. (its an amazing bass from a fellow TBer....pretty excited to get my grubby fingers on it!)....

Still enjoying exploring the passive possibilities with my instruments. To my thinking and ears, the active/passive switch is the modern/vintage tone selector. I don't know why it took me so long to seriously explore the passive settings - I mystify myself sometimes... I did have great fun playing the colaburst SJ5 in both modes this morning! Modern setting mostly for full volume with drummer and vintage for quiet improvised fill/support when the word was being proclaimed.

Well, I have been boring everyone for the past six months talking about my Combustion V4 being on the way. It arrived today so here is the mandatory pic.
Transparent white, swamp ash. I have only had a very brief play on it so far. First impressions - 1) setup is excellent straight out of the plane half way around the world, medium low action and not a buzz. Every bit as good as my Sadowsky metro when it arrived. 2) It feels heavy to pick up but light to wear 3) I usually play passive basses and the passive option is sweet and useable 4) The active electronics (I assume EMG) are much nicer than I anticipated or remember from the eighties, well voiced and natural without any harsh "zing" 5) The finish looks as good as any bass I have played costing much more 6) The made in China sticker will be coming off the back of the neck 7) Everyone who says fanned frets are easy to adjust to is absolutely correct, adjustment time about thirty seconds, it just feels natural 8) And the reason why I went with Dingwall originally - the string tension on the B is marvellous, as is the balance/tension between all five strings.
In fact the only problem I have with this bass is that I am used to fours and getting used to a five after all these years is a huge mental leap.
