Dingwall Owners Club

Not to throw a wrench in the works, but the few times I've contacted Dingwall, I felt I got the cold shoulder. Bums me out because I'm a full time pro player and my Super JP/4 is my favorite bass I've ever owned (bought it used). So, I'm not taking away from the quality of the basses as I find them to be so great. But as a dude who always plays 200+ gigs a year, I felt a bit snubbed when I had any questions or requests. That being said, I'll probably never sell my Super JP :)

That has to be the very first time I hear a negative comment about Dingwall's customer service, but that been said I don't know what you were asking and who, there are different department that are busy dealing with different issues, there is a technical department with the email being [email protected] , which I have used in the past asking for wiring schematics and the response was fast, as well as sales and availability query department through Barry Lamb, I won't give his email, but there is one for clients to use, and of course there is a Dingwall owner's forum with a section called Ask Sheldon and another called Ask Barry at the following links:

Ask Sheldon: Invalid Link Removed
Ask Barry: Invalid Link Removed

I doubt any of the above channels would have lead you to have got the "cold shoulder treatment" being this business is their livelihood, it would go against their principal interest.

What was it exactly that you were asking them anyway?

I asked Sheldon if he would consider a carbon fiber instrument, he very politely told me where to get off haha! Still love him like a brother and I live miles away from the Canadian factory.

My take is that the factory is pretty leanly staffed. Sheldon is a very actively creative, innovative hands-on guy and thus has a lot on his plate. Sometimes you have to be patient, sometimes you have to be persistent and patient, and sometimes (when it comes to personal service requests that aren't honored), you have to chalk it up to the fact they are a product of their success, and those limited resources have to be focused in the right way for them to keep things humming along.

But one thing is for sure Duke, and that is don't take it personally. In some ways, it's what I like about Dingwall. We're all treated fairly evenly. I have waaaay less juice then you do, but I always feel like they will take care of me the same, if they can do it. And if it takes a while to get an answer, or a result, it's not because of who I am (or who I am not). It's just about waiting for your time-slot in the multiplexer.

The newest member of my Bass Family....I've finally found the bass of my dreams.

Easy there, brother - you're going to overload our senses with gorgeousness. The visual impact of your bass is quite stunning! I know it's gotta sound good too - I've never played or heard of a bad-sounding Dingwall. Enjoy that beauty thoroughly!

I've thanked God many times for blessing us satisfied players through Sheldon's unique gift of crafting consistently high quality, innovative, consistently gorgeous, and down-right amazing bass instruments. I've been playing my Super Perfect sonic blue tonecaster for the last two days. Super amazing - there's just no better P for me in this world. I need to take a better-focused picture than this one:

A slightly more-focused pic of the blue brother, who came through his preamp-ectomy yesterday with flying colors and is now restored to his original passive/aggressive state. ;) Bronze brother is pre-op, being prepped to receive the donor organ for buffering a volume control (between the pickup and the input to the selector switch) for the bridge pickup:

Absolutely one of Sheldon's, which just had its first 'birthday'. :) It arrived Christmas eve of last year. I've been known to refer to it as the 'Super perfect Precision. Or, just the blue ox...

I decided not to mess with the perfection of the bronze SJ/P. I was just playing it in passive mode through the Cafe Walter & Shure in-ears and wow. I realized that the last time I tried the passive mode was with my Grado SR80's and wasn't terribly impressed. I've always run this bass in active mode with the EQ flat, but now I'm interested to hear how running passive into the Reeves/MAS rig works...

We are too! Details, please.

It's kinda like that picture Duke posted of himself with Billy Bob Thornton--the temptation to get him talking about "things" with Angelina Jolie and live vicariously...

Living vicariously is the affordable way - my example would be those players with medium-scale Dingwalls with wenge necks. If I were rich, I'd have a wenge-necked SJ with the FD3's in the 60's positions. Vicariousness is good and so much less expensive.

The last time I tried the passive mode live with my SJ/P-4 was playing through my Walkabout/Baer ML-112 and I was underwhelmed. With the available mid & high frequency energy available from the Reeves amp and MAS cab, I think it will be a different story...

Great New Years gig last night. We managed to be at peak energy in an anthemic song, just as the countdown started. We just about raised the roof!

Bass content:

We played two energetic 1.5 hour sets. Even after a year and three months of ownership, the freedom I feel with my ABZ (more even intonation top to bottom, perfect balance, light weight, slinky ergonomics) never fails to give me a rush. Especially on longer sets. And don't even get me started on that killer growl...
