Spent more time with my SP5, and it is even better playing while standing, everything falls into place, and at 7.5 lbs, those 2-3 hour practices will no longer be an issue. The blocks are helpful on this body style, the way it fits my body, I can see the fretboard, which is not possible on my AB1. And even more important, this is the first bass (other than the Hofner clone) I've ever played where I can easily hit the E4 to G1, or hit the D4-G3-G7 with just a finger spread instead of hand shifting. It's just what I've been looking for, plus didn't have to go 32 or 33" scale to get without sacrificing the superb B string. Playing Country, the B string and walking bass lines require more fretboard territory than Rock ever did.
Playing while seated took a little technique change, at first, the nut seemed awful close, but once I moved my picking forearm onto the rear contour instead of its usual place on the indented contour, everything fell into place. I'm sure it will become natural in short order.
I'm not sure what this all means for my AB1. I love playing the SP5 so much more, I may find myself hauling it back and forth to practice unless I score another (something I haven't done in years). The AB1 would be good for Rock, but my P4 and JPJ cover that well. I may need to use it for trade bait or sell to fund a build, time will tell I guess.
