Dingwall Owners Club

Meh. I just went ahead and bought what I was looking at! :)

Jwr, I have an early 90s Prefire Prima Voodoo fiver and I love it. It has Bartolinis specially wound to Sheldon's spec. If I had to pick one of my 4 Dingwalls to be my only bass, that would be it. It sits in any kind of mix. And it plays like a breeze.

I also have a 4 string Z2 that is also really cool. It also has Barts and a 3 band Bart pre amp. It growls like crazy and plays itself. I'm not sure what year it was made, but I assume 90s.

So yes, I think you did great! Does yours have Barts?

Yes it has Barts and a bart pre which is something I was really, really excited about!!! I actually talked to Sheldon before buying it and he basically said "do it" and he told me how old it was, etc. haha. So I called the shop and did it! Sheldon is such an awesome guy.

The guy said it's super active, which is awesome. I want a Dingwall that's growly and punchy. My AB1 was totally passive and didn't have much balls to it. Sounds like the Z models definitely do though. I'm really excited!!!

It looks like you have the same setup as my 4 string Z2. It has a three-way toggle for selecting the center frequency for the mid control.

Plus, how can you beat trans red over ash??:bassist:

Thanks for sharing. I can hear why that model would be great for metal. Great job on the execution on that bass by the Dingwall team. EDIT: And great job by you as well!!

Just got done recording a little background for a local maker group's KickStarter project. I used my NG-2 through an Aguilar AG-500. I was too lazy to de-tune my ABZ from F-standard. I thought I would share it as an example of what the NG-2 sounds like in the upper mid area. I thought it turned out ok.

Let me know what you think.

Does anyone know if there is a tracing of the Dingwall bodies anywhere that compares body shapes/sizes/contours. Roscoe has done this and it can be very helpful/insightful.

I'm personally interested in SP5/SJ5/AB1 shapes. I'm especially interested in the lower contours and how it effects the distance of the headstock while seated (that's where I get the majority of my practice time in).

General question for the fans here... What would you consider a "fair" and a "steal" in terms of cash for an AB1 6 string (has flamed maple caps)? Say that it's in pretty great shape.

Note: I'm not trying to sell one at all. Just trying to judge whether or not one I'm eying is a good deal or not. I feel like it is, and am about to pull the trigger... but also hesitating, since I do have a house purchase coming up :P

I think a "sold items" search on eBay and a search for "Dingwall " on the classified ads here will provide direct information, rather than conjecture.

That said, I think my tipping point from "fair" to "steal" on a Canadian Dingwall would be around the $1600 point, but your research would outweigh my guess.
