Not sure I understand. I play fingerstyle and pluck the strings across (towards my palm), not down (towards the body). As an experiment after reading the post, I tried changing my hand position and moving my fingers towards the body of the bass. This resulted in far more clacking than I normally get.

The strings are making contact with the frets when I play busy, faster parts and my fretting fingers are lifting up and down off the neck.

Raising the height of the B string slightly has given me more string clearance (and removed almost all the clacking) and has not interfered with my technique.

That's alright, I was just trying to help. I've never seen you play, but without going into how you play you described what sounds like a technique issue. I also play fingerstyle, as most of us here, but nobody reported this problem as far as I remember.

I'm having quite a bit of fun with Payson strings on my ABs.

On Phi (Red AB1, passive), I now have his "new" F# setup - F#, B, E, A,D tuning. It is rather amazing. I want to go back and re-write some parts of some songs using it. No rehearsal with my favorite band this week though, so I may just take the couple of hours and write some riffs on it, record them, and post here. As I understand it, the F# is still in development, so there may be some tweaks. But, it works very well with the other set of strings from him. I was a little unsure about it, as I've only lightly dabbled with F# in the past. I've got a bit more dialing-in to do on my rig, but it's turning out so, so great.

On Pi (Blue AB1, 2 band glock, P-tone) I have his standard set and a new string for Drop-A, which my band uses pretty heavily. We switch between B and A, and this string EXCELS at both. I thought "Sure, it might do Drop-A well, but then B will feel tight/odd". It does, but it is not bad at all. It's actually nice, as I was wanting a little more tension at B than the stock Dingwall sets gave me, and this nailed that goal, while also shoring up the Drop-A a bit.

So, yeah. These are some sweet strings. Payson himself is great to talk to. It kind of reminds me of how Kalium was a few years ago before they had massive growth. He's really hands on, cares about his products and every user, and has great advice.

More to come on these strings as I get time. I'm pretty sure as soon as I get my custom AB1 six later this year, his strings will go on it.

Can't be the price too... his 5 set pack is super affordable. My only real question I have right now is longetivity. With the Dingwall strings, I was changing strings once every 2 months or so. As long as they last that long, I'll be happy.

I don't remember ever seeing an AB-II without a magnetic battery cover. I remember early AB-IIs not being chambered. I think they started chambering around 2006? I could be wrong.

but what I can tell you is.. that it is brighter than the Tone Capsule, at least that is the way it seems to me. I am not going to put it in the AB1 .. gonna leave the Tone Capsule in it.. it just works so dang well in that bass. it would be sad to go mess with it. it is perfect in my book just like it is ..
