Dingwall Owners Club

guess i've joined the club by accident...

had a shoulder operation back in december, which unfortunately resulted in temporary damage to the main nerve in my right arm. couldn't play my fivers, but when a cool TBer waved a four-string super P at me as partial trade for another bass i had for sale i took it, thinking i might be able to get back in action quicker on four strings.

so after a few weeks in the woodshed with it i played my first gig in months last night on that super P. it felt good and sounded good...

...and left me with GAS for a super J.

Well, if all goes according to plan, I'm joining this club in May. Due to very personal reasons, I've needed to make some changes to my gear, and a very specific Dingwall has caught my attention. I hope to have more to say once I've worked out the financial bit.

I hope you do too as your kinda leaving us in suspense!!! Which one is it???

The white Z from T and F???
The prima on reverb????
C'mon already..... geez. ;)

What compression pedals have you guys been using lately?
I go through phases on having a compressor on my board and taking it off. Usually depends on what kind of music I'm playing in the bands I'm playing with. If you want the absolute best, I'd recommend the Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Bass model. Another great compressor which has a smaller footprint and not so spendy (and often overlooked here) is the Wampler Mini Ego - just a smaller version of the Ego.

Interesting story. I came to Dingwall due to injuries also (shoulder and left hand). After researching my options, I decided to take the plunge and get a SJ 4 string, right after they came out. That was about 8 years ago.
Thankfully both the shoulder and hand injuries resolved. But by then I had seen the light with Dingwall. I moved on to the the long scale version a few years ago (I now have a Z), but I never lost my love for the SJ model, so I ordered a custom exotic SJ5 last year.

I plan to use a steel coffee can to hold enough isopropyl alcohol to keep the 'alternate sets' submerged. I'll report back with my results...

I've had good results soaking strings in a PVC tube (cap at one end, cleanout plug at the other, for access) filled with denatured alcohol. Glue a plastic wine cork to the inside of the cleanout plug and screw a large cup hook into it; suspend the strings from that.

Good ideas! The coffee can is step one (already in hand) to 'see' if the process will work for me. I'll be putting a set in to soak today...

By all means, give it a test. But I'm completely confident you'll be pleased with how well the alcohol soak brings strings back from the dead. I routinely get two additional uses out of a set before I trash them.

An advantage of the PVC tube is that you don't have to coil the strings to fit in the container. Some folks think that loosens the wraps.

Added: here's where I learned about this.
