If you liked the Combustion, you are gonna love the ABZ. I tried a Combustion first as well, and am SO glad I spent a little more on the ABZ.
Woow! I loved the ABI. The pickup selector is great! The bridge is totally usable! Not thin at all. Neck with tone at 50% is really fat but still articulate! This struck me most about the bass. Everything was so articulate. I loved it. Parallel is great for chording and series... forgetaboutit!
It's decided. I'm gonna buy an ABZ6 next, with drop A tuner and extra strap pin on the back! Now to decide on a color and to get the money together! Black or Midnight?

New Bass Day. 
My first Dingwall arrived last night. Natural Alder finish, Rosewood fretboard. I've always preferred my basses without pick-guards. I just like to see all the wood finish I can. The sweet thing is this is the exact bass I picked out to order from Dingwall and found it on TalkBass. First practice tomorrow night, first gig with it on Saturday.
Plays fantastic and the first step towards my ABII.

Next thing up is getting my Dingwall Club Membership number.

Been telling the guys in the band about my "new" Combustion and they were a little skeptical about the whole thing. They were really happy with the sound I was getting from my Yamaha TR5BII and were wondering why I was considering changing it. My wife couldn't understand why I wanted one either.
Had our first practice with it tonight. Just to give it a work out we played a pile of stuff we don't normally play on stage. Started off with some Rodney Crowell, switched to Fats Domino, followed up with some Dire Straits, jammed a good long time to Stormy Monday, some 60's surf music and finished off with some Bluegrass (not the kind you can smoke). Everyone was absolutely blown away with the sound of it. No more questions on why I wanted to change, only why did I wait so long to get one. My wife was totally blown away. First time she has ever commented about the sound of any bass I've ever played and that's after 38 years of her listening to the bands I've played in.
I could not believe the range in sound I could get by merely moving my right hand just in front of the middle pup, over the middle pup (my usual spot) and back to the bridge one. It was like dialing up a total EQ change.
All this from an Dingwall "entry level" bass.
Next stop my ABII.

I think this has already been answered. But the answer is a no, because (IIRC) the scale length required for a consistent low F# would be too big.

I always preferred Nickel over steel - it feels and sounds better.
IMO, the only downside about owning a Dingwall (except the Super J, of course) is the very limited number of string sets to choose from . Good to see that this is about to change!

I got my first Afterburner about 7 years ago, when it wasn't an AB-I, it was an Afterburner 5 (and there was only 1 model of Afterburner).
I got my Z2 about 6 years ago to have a "backup" for the AB, but it quickly turned into my main bass for the band I was in.
Then in April, I traded that Z2 for a beautiful Afterburner II due to my preference for the meatier neck shape and larger variation in tonality between pickups.
Now the AB-II is my "main" bass, although I just played the O.G. at rehearsal tonight and enjoyed the immediacy/attack of the non-chambered body...
