It's a game changer. A little strange at first but you quickly get used to it. The tone and tightness of notes is really something that's difficult to come back from.
I was super happy with my basses before I tried one and the Dingwall basically ruined them for me.

I agree with Dave, Dingwall is truly a game changer.
I received my NG2 5 string about 6 months ago and am amazed every time I play it.
Can't imagine ever wanting anything else !!!!!
You're gonna love it !!!!

Combustion/NG2 are gateway drugs.... what till you play a Canadian made!!!! You pretty much would need an intervention to get off of that stuff and then still it's not likely.

Well, I made the mistake of taking off my NG2 pickguard and moving the “middle” pickup to the neck. Now I don’t know which tone I like better! Damn it sounded get.

I had a 5 string passive AB 1 that had that vibe but the Tone Capsule really livened that configuration up.

While you're at it, you might try playing with some "in between" positions too. Don't know if you can tell in my profile pic, but I've settled on the neck pickup being halfway between the combustion and NG2 positions. Spacing is similar to a Spector/Cirrus/Smith that way and I love the way the low mids jump out.

Good concept.
I've built a few headless basses, and I've found that building a headless isn't a slam dunk on an existing body.
In this case, I think that the exposed tuners will get smashed off.
Probably better to start with a "purpose built" body shape...

But I do like the idea of Dingwall electronics in a headless!

@bonz - darrell I completely agree with you. When I was thinking of a design I was trying to use hardware that is already available. That way you wouldn't need to custom machine hardware. Because of the multi scale length you have to use those solo rails which then makes the B and E string jet out. I'm still researching other headless hardware that is being made but I think this design is a good start. I just think a headless Dingwall would be badass but I know everyone at Dingwall have their plates full. This is just me having fun and brainstorming Dingwall ideas.

But I really hate the concept as then I'd be concocting justification to get back in line.

Hey everyone, I asked this on the facebook site but wanted to tap into the knowledge base here too...

Besides the custom order pickguard places...does anyone stock or have a template available for the NG2 pickguards....in particular the new rounded pickups?

Also, since I'm thinking of going just with a satin black, has anyone tried the plastic spray paints (ex. Fusion, etc)? I'm wondering how they bond and hold up? Thanks for any insight.

Do you just want a plain replacement with no bevel? If so I’d recommend nd just cutting your own. It takes a bit of patience but it’s not that tricky. Pretty sure nobody stocks them especially for the newer rounded ends.
On the paint side, if you want flat black you could try plastidip which is totally reversible. Should hold up okay on a pick guard.

Plasti Dip...great idea. I just watched a few videos and guys are getting some great results with it. Plus, like you said, reversible.....win. Thanks man.
