Wait, that yellow NG2 gets plugged into an Ampeg, not a Markbass? A whole new opportunity to extend the color coordination
Hey guys!!! So, I got a bass that sports Luminlay side dots, and they're not that helpful at all... I mean, I'm not sure if the stage needs to be really dark in order for them to glow or what... or maybe the material was defective or something... and I'm seriously considering adding them to my super j that's gonna be built anytime now, but they're kinda pricey, that's why I wanna make sure the added cost is worth it... so what do you think about them?

The Luminlay dots need blue, violet, or UV light to charge up. If they're not charging off the light in the venue, then you can use a blue/UV "flashlight" to do it--they charge pretty quickly. The manufacturer's (NFI) website sells one, in fact.
Thanks bro! I got the small lamp and all and they do charge quickly but only stay lit for a few minutes, even if you charge them for some time... As I said, I don't know if they're intended for really dark stages or if mine are just not working properly...
That one is on eBay right now... for a ridiculously high price shipped from Japan. Not sure if its a new addition to the lineup, or just a one-off, but definitely my favorite looking Combustion so far.
I find that they fade to a muted glow fairly quickly, too (even the website only claims 20 minutes), but last long enough for a start in the dark. Venue lighting generally carries it from there for me (although I'm rarely looking). Tell the house you deserve your own spotlight!
I put Luminlay dots in my Afterburner. About $35 and a couple hours easy work.
While I had the neck off I did some cleaning and fret dressing.
It’s a pretty simple job. You glue about 5-6mm of Luminlay rod into each hole.
I got a huge kick out them every time I saw the glow.

I'm still very happy with my AB2-3X. It's perfect in every way - sound, feel, build quality, looks... It's even got luminlay side dots!

I have Luminlays installed on two of my gigging basses. I love them even though they start fading immediately.
I keep the charger in my pocket and recharge the dots between songs as needed. Will probably add them to my
NG-2, although the Maple Board provides better visual contrast then rosewood or wenge for side markers.
I have the exact model, it works perfectly with my NG2, very stable.
Lately I've been feeling like my Z2/3 is a bit compressed feeling.
Anyone else hear it like that?
Maybe it's just my ears being "moody" but tonight I was preferring the raw sound of my P-Bass...even as compared to my soloed neck P-Tone.
On the other hand, the playability of my Z3 is utterly untouchable.
So I'm trying to figure out what I could do to get a more raw and organic tone out of my Z...
Anyone else hear it like that?

Well I considering in get a Dingwall in 2018 Combustion .
4 questions I have about it:
1) I saw some basses with 2 pickups near each other and other ones with these 2 pickups more separated. What does those configurations changes in the sound?
2) I mainly see 5 strings versions for this bass. They don't make 4 strings with a d-tuner?
3) Those the darkglass preamp make notorious difference? The stock-pickup are from dingwall (Even if it cames with dakrglass preamp)?
4)The combustions are made in China, only this model. Why? The fact that is made in china means that the quality is poor comparing with the models (that I don't like) that are made in Canada?

1) There are 2 combustion models. The "regular" combustion (pickups kind of like a jazz bass) and the NG2, which is the Nolly Getgood signature model (2 pickups near the bridge. Similar to a Musicman
2) Not sure about the D-tuner, but there are definitely 4 string versions (See: Invalid Link Removed)
3) Can't comment on this one, but I do love my Darkglass pedals
4) Every bass, even the Combustion line, is setup and checked at the factory in Canada and then shipped. Sheldon & team keep a pretty high and consistent quality control, thus everything coming out of the shop is first class
The close together (NG2) version is more in your face. It's been said that it's Dingwalls version of a Stingray.
The separated version is a little more traditional sounding, but still very modern IMO.
The cool thing about the V4 Combustion and V1 NG-2 is that they're routed for both pickup positions. You just need a new pickguard.
The newest versions with the rounded pickup shells are routed the same, but they're also routed as a 3X, meaning you can put 3 pickups in it.
They make 4 string models.
I'm not sure I understand the question, but the Darkglass pre has its own sound. Its very versatile and sounds great but it's got more color than the Glockenklang pres.
Pickups are indeed Dingwall.
The Combustion was designed to be a more affordable Dingwall. The quality rivals the Canadian made basses. They simply cost less and have less options.
I love my NG2 as much as my Canadian made Dingwalls.
