Hey guys

Does anybody know if Dingwall "Super P" angled set is anywhere to be found online to purchase?
I found some old threads on TB and some mentions on bassdirect but it appears that they are not sold anymore.

Unrelated stuff:

I'm building a custom bass solely for studio use and I'm considering pickup options.
Slanted pups is a very niche market so it's either full custom or dingwall, pretty much.

I'm after both classic P-split and Musicman-style humbucking pups, they should sound as close to classics as they can.
Passive only (Yes, I've always been fine with passive MM pups).

The P split will be installed in the classic position which is 5.60" from the bridge saddles,
The MM pickup will be installed right next to it (it's like 0.20" towards the bridge from the classic stingray sweetspot)

Any suggestions on how to pull this off with either Dingwall pickups or something else?
I can order a custom set locally, but with small businesses like that you're not really sure what you're getting (I'm not too tech savvy in electronics)

I contacted [email protected] and they asked for the serial # of my SJ in order to sell me a Super P split pickup. I doubt you could get one just like that

The Nordstrand crew can craft to your specifications. Jeff @ Dingwall shipped shells to Adrian @ Nordstrand for me. I supplied Adrian with the string spacing (20.5mm) and he built these AlNico V (NP-4a-DW) for me.

One set is in my Super P4 and the other is in my SJ/P4 with a Big Split:

Shielding is optional (mine are not), but my costs were about the same as the regular Nordstrand models.

Due to having no 'living room' speaker presently, and being sick and at home, I've been enjoying my SJ5 through my Cafe Walter/PJB phones. No boast, just truth - it's simply the best five string bass on the planet for me. Hope you all are feeling better than I am... :cool:

It's been so long since I've caught a cold, I'm being reminded of how they suck. :rollno: It hasn't affected my hearing, though - my favorite fiver rocks. :)

Three years ago, I thinned the herd to just one bass. I sold off tons of gear and four basses. One Dingwall, my Super J pj 5 survived the purge.

I’ve got it strung E-C, and it’s a keeper. At 9.5 lb, it’s a little on the heavy side. The only change I’d consider would be shaving a pound or two off, and that’s not really an option. Instead, I’ll just do more yoga with Adrienne. Maybe I’ll add some Luminlay dots, too.

Recently, I’ve been looking for a super light weight, super simple four string. Something my shoulder can stand for more than a couple hours at a time.

This week I fell off the “one bass” wagon.

7.5 lb, Super P in pristine black gloss, with Birdseye maple board. Passive electronics. Fusion tone control. First bass I’ve ever owned with a maple board. And it’s already got Luminlay side dots!

Thanks to Frootbooty for a super smooth transaction!

Super, super, super....did I mention how super excited I am? :thumbsup:

I think you can hardly be blamed for having a P as well as the J. Seems like common sense to me! Especially when it looks like THAT!!

That is a classy beast! My Superb! P is also my only maple/maple necked beauty ( love it! :bassist: )

I just got my 3rd Dingwall in the other day so I had to take a photo of all of them together. I have owned 6 in total but still have these 3.


The black one on the left is a 2006 AB1 that started out passive but I just ordered a Glockenklang pre from Dingwall and had it installed. Alder body with a flamed maple top, maple neck with a wenge board. It also has the original FD3's that are wired in parallel. Sounds amazing!

The blue one is a passive ABZ5 with a PTone neck pup. Ash body with maple neck and board. Super light with a killer neck. The original owner had Dingwall sand it a little thinner than your regular ABZ neck.

And...the yellow AB1 (my personal favourite and the only one I bought new) has an alder body with Wenge neck and board and a Darkglass pre. They all sound different but fantastic and they all play like butter.

I looked at ordering just a fretless neck for the other SJ I used to have. Full wait list time and about $1200 CAN if I recall. I was looking for a more timely fix for the lack of fretless situation but I may not have been completed until after the fretless build I currently have on the books. I was sad. But now a friend has the other super J which he listed after for a long time and he's happy!! So I guess it all worked out for some one. Lol.
