Played my new combustion at rehearsal last night so I thought I'd give it a very quick review. The sound was great and surprisingly even when switching between active and passive. The neck is pretty close in size to my ABZ, just a little chunkier (feels closer to my old stingray 5) so that was comfortable and easy to play. I remember the first run of combustions having much chunkier necks which is one of the reasons I went for an ABZ for my first Dingwall. Fit and finish is really good.

The only downside for me is the new bridge pieces. I play with a pick most and most of the time and I'm fairly close to the bridge, so my hand naturally rests around there. I find the edges of the new saddles to be pretty sharp and uncomfortable at times. It looks as though the old bridge pieces were much more rounded and comfortable to rest your hand on. I can adjust the way I play, but this one is gonna be my main gigging bass so I might have to try and find a solution to that.

Fingers crossed they give birth to a lovely Z3.

But do you have to wait 18 years before they are full scale?

Do you just want a plain replacement with no bevel? If so I’d recommend nd just cutting your own. It takes a bit of patience but it’s not that tricky. Pretty sure nobody stocks them especially for the newer rounded ends.
On the paint side, if you want flat black you could try plastidip which is totally reversible. Should hold up okay on a pick guard.

Thanks again for that suggestion. Decided to give it a go this morning especially because if it doesn’t come out well, you can just peel it off. While it doesn’t lay totally flat like paint, I do like the textured look. Very happy with the result.

Looks pretty cool to me - I also like the texture.

Looks great from those pictures, I’ll be using it on a few parts for my Combustion next week once all the supplies arrive.

I put my deposit in today with Sho Me Sound & Music on an NG-2 4 String.
Got a couple of months to wait but I’m really looking forward to it.

I haven't placed one of these yet where the new owner didn't say things like "WOW" and "Blown Away" and "Best bass I have ever played" and "gig sound was incredible". I'm sure you will enjoy it. Of course those words are not new words for this group.

I traded in my well-loved ABZ5 last week and got this instead! Neck feels a little chunkier and it's slightly heavier, but the active circuitry is a step up I think. Maybe not built in Canada but I can't really spot any difference in quality.

Yep! My NG-2 is just as good as my Canadian built ABZ, Voodoo, and Super J.

Yep, the quality IS amazing...every single one we have received of both the Canadian basses and the NG2/Combustion has been absolutely perfect.

The quality of an NG2 is every bit as good as an AB model. Sheldon is such a quality control freak that the "made in China" thing doesn't really matter. However, my Z3 and SJ5 (both custom exotics) are perfection on an entirely different level. For those of you who plan on stepping up to a Canadian custom...you will not be disappointed!

Ooh hey. I like that stand. Does it hold your dingwall up high enough that your instrument cable isn't bent at an awkward angle on the floor when plugged in?

Well, I know that the Hercules stands (NFI) can support a Z2 with a straight cable plug without crimping the cable.

Hamilton stands work as well. I have a Hercules stand as well, but prefer the Hamilton stands. I've used them for years, only upkeep is replacing the foam and the occasional rivet or two.
