Or buy a standard Combustion and add the DG preamp later if you wish?

Probably be a cheaper option...?

Also yeah, watching this upgrade thread with interest - been talking to Waltsdog about doing something similar myself so the more ideas, the better.

The Sklar is one pickup short in MY sweet spot. ;) I don't know much about the SF2's. Back when the Rastaburst was under development, we discussed the pros and cons of SF v. FD and both Sheldon and I ended up feeling that FD's were a good move. I love a good Z series, but the point of this bass is to have a 'low value' touring bass, and anything in the 2500+ range ends up killing that idea.

Fair enough. But if you get a chance to play with some SFs I think you should. I think they would do well in your genre.

If you’re set on adding a P-tone then I would put it in the middle straight off which then gives you the sounds you want and like currently plus the p-tone close to the precision sweet spot.
There is definitely space to add another pot in the control cavity, it's just a bit fiddly as everything in there fits so snugly and neatly it's nice to continue that rather than turning it into spaghetti.

No pickguard on the purple will look great, I had the pickguard off my white one for a while but it looked too naked for me (not a fan of white/maple/chrome).

Right on. I'll probably just make sure that the 'screw holes' are blackened on the inside for now. If I go permanent without pickguard, I can fill easily for camouflage. Here's a nice thing...we're off all of January. So theoretically when this shows up sometime next week I can goof with it as is until the additional Dingwall parts show up then I can play around with pickup placement once that happens.

I did play a 73P on stage for nearly a decade, so I'm fairly comfortable that I can get what I need out of that tone, and it was one of the reasons I really liked the Dingwall FD-3's to me it was a better vibe than a standard Jazz Bass single coil.

On the passive roll off (which I don't have plans on right off), I just would need to figure out how to insert it in the circuit. From there it's a situation of adjusting what control goes where to make the most sense for me on stage, what with whatever space and location it would need to be in the control lineup.

All this talk about adding a p-tone as a 3rd pickup in the NG2s has me thinking. My Purple Swirl would look great without a pickguard plus the benefit of additional tones. Need to get a D-Tuner too. Can’t wait till this one arrives mid January!!

Once you get it you can get a really good idea of what the passive roll of will sound like by switching to passive, when you do that the last knob becomes a passive tone control.

Cool. If only Sheldon still made the short-lived hybrid treble control. That's what we did in the Rastaburst. On the front side of the 'notch' it is preamp treble boost. On the backside of the notch it's passive tone roll off. I generally live with it rolled off to varying degrees. With the Tonecapsule, Sheldon suggested I just may need to roll off a bit more from my amp...but given I'm backed out nearly all the way, we'll see. :P I may end up looking for a pedal that does this that I can just have at my feet.

Yep, but that still puts in in the DG EQ range. The upper mid control on that is 2.8k. That indeed could be enough for me. We'll find out shortly.
