It's no different than playing a 34" scale bass verses a 35" scale bass. Each of those is in tune. In the case of the Dingwall, the scale is specific to each string, rather than the bass.

Try some DR Hellborgs on that Super P/J. I sure like what they do to get the solid, sit in the mix, sound.

Focused fundamental is the marketing hype, but they do seem to deliver just that. I've been running them on the P/J, tuned a half step down. Its working really well.

Fellow Super PJ player here. Sheldon did a RIGHTEOUS job with the NP-4 precision pickup. I'll have to agree with you once again - the series setting is awesome. :cool:

Yes, I'd like to try those DR's (good reviews), that's why right now I'm trying out the chromes (also good reviews). I had some 2-3 year old labella's on for a couple hours and maybe they're too dead by now for this bass, but I'll also be trying out some 2 year old Thomastik flats later on, after the chromes break in. Sheldon tells me he's going to try a set of Thomastiks and let me know what he thinks. I personally think the broken in Thomastiks will be more suited to this bass than the broken in Labella's, but I won't know for sure until I try them both out.

Yes sir, but is it an NP-4 or FD-4??? I thought FD-4. It's hard to decide between the passive/active, That Glock pre-amp is really quite nice, right now I like rolling all the highs out and a little bass boost in series, and it becomes a MONSTER! The high roll-off in active seems quite high so rolling it off warms it up nicely and still maintains a very present upper harmonic, with no apparent loss of clarity.

I looked in my little booklet and you are correct. Must have had that memory improperly stored in my brain! :confused: FD-4 P is the proper designation. Have you tried soloing the Super Fatty with a bit of bass boost yet?

Which one's the super fatty? I guess it must be the bridge. I did for a wee bit, but I lean to the P sound. The honest to goodness truth is that the Dingwall bridge pickup is top notch, maybe the best I've heard, just not my thing, hence the P/J. I'll try it again and make sure I add a little bass boost, it is a really a nice sounding bridge pickup, it's fatter than others I've heard it's super fatty!

It looks far more extreme looking at it from front than it does when you are wearing it. The literature that comes with the bass suggests that you close your eyes when you play it for the first time. I took their advice. It really is not very difficult to acclimate to.

I would have to assume there are certain techniques that would be more difficult than others, but for the vast majority of "general" playing on the money real estate, it is a non-issue.
