Resurrecting this old thread.

Listening to Incubus today reminded me how great this guy is...The new guy (Ben Kenney) is fine, but Dirk was a Groove Monster!

What is he doing now? There is little to no mention of him on the inter-webs since his time with Incubus! How on earth can a player this good become so invisible?!

Inquiring mind want to know... :cool:

I certainly have a lot of respect for Ben's musicianship and style. Ben's an awesome guitarist, a competent drummer and he isn't half bad on bass. That said, I think I'd like Ben better as a bassist if the newer material was better, but IMO, Incubus' overall album quality has been flying downhill since Morning View. They went from a raw jazz-funk-metal fusion sound to a poppy band. Their new stuff, I can take or leave, but Dirk's playing on Fungus Amongus, Enjoy Incubus, S.C.I.E.N.C.E., and Make yourself is monumental. Dirk rules.

They went from a raw jazz-funk-metal fusion sound to a poppy radio-rock band. Sure, I get the whole "band growth" thing...but, plenty of bands grow as musicians and the music just improves. Incubus seems to have became a little stale. They still mix genres on occasion, but their new stuff, I can take or leave. Dirk's playing on Fungus Amongus, Enjoy Incubus, S.C.I.E.N.C.E., and Make yourself is monumental. Dirk > Ben
