Guitars are shipped in anything but a ready to play state. Typically strings are slack, and truss rods may be loosened. Unfortunately, techs at your usual rock emporium store are often not well trained or careful. I've found a local tech who I trust with all of my instruments. Any new purchases go to him to be checked out and set up properly.
When I was teaching regularly, I made a point of taking my students, along with their instruments, to see him for a tune up. (He would charge them my regular lesson rate, so that was their lesson for the day.) He caught two Squiers with warped necks that my students were able to return for a replacement.
