A member of my band took it upon himself, in addition to traditional promotion for an upcoming gig, to post in CL's no strings attached section something along the lines of pretending to be a 5'4 redhead female with green eyes looking to hook up at the show. .

If you are going to lie then do it big. He should have also posted a photo something like this on CL. The guys, (pervs) would be coming out of the wood work to attend your gig.
PS: this is not my sister.

It was actually a clever and brilliant way to fill a club. Hats off! It matters not how you get them in the door, but that you get the. In the door. The club could care less how you help them to sell booze. That is why they are there. Being sanctimonious about the idea is certainly your right, but it's not getting you any further than "honesty". Nobody is going to complain to the club owner that they are a perv looking for a hookup that didn't show up, and I'm sure there weren't too many girls bothered by guys looking for hookups. Just mKe sure your girl in the ad is wearing something not likely found in a rock club like a Barry Manilow T-shirt or something. That will minimize bothering the innocent.

And who knows, a lonely guy that shows up just might actually meet a nice lonely girl....and get his groove on. And besides the entertainment industry is made up from a long serious trail of BS and lies....mistrust....abuse....backstabbing....this is just. Another tool in the ladder to actually "making it". The OP's bandmate has options...politics.. Or music promotion.

Yeah, it's really cool until all the "pervs" figure out what happened. Don't look for any good press to come out of that.

The one thing I'd be mindful of? Does your band REALLY want the pervs who troll Craigslist as potential fans? It's one thing for them to fill out a club for a single gig. What if some of them actually like your band and start showing up regularly to gigs?!?!

How do i know? Because once some years ago me and my gf were so sickened by CL pervo's we decided to make up a fake girl and bait them.

I have to ask... what was it that made you and your girlfriend so sickened by CL pervs? Something had to have brought the both of you to that state of mind to where you were willing to go through with all that.

The only true mistake here is that the drummer made this fictional girl a friend of a female in the band.
So when the pervs dont find the girl theyre looking for, they may possibly ask the female in the OP's band where her friend is.

I will be coming into town for my friend's birthday concert Sunday December 8th. She will be busy playing on stage, and I hate to go to these things by myself. I orginally thought it was a lame and sleazy move, and after reading the actual ad, it definitely has too many connections to the band. Never forget the law of uninteded consequences.

Not really a fireable event for a first offense, unless you don't like him anyway and are just looking for an excuse.

Is this for real? I mean, if there is an actual female in this band, and this story is true, this could actually place her in danger. I find it unimaginable that an adult male would place his female bandmate in such a predicament.

"Hey baby, I followed you home from the gig. Where's your red headed friend?"

Is this an all male band? Fine, call it a funny stunt, but be prepared to defend yourself against a drunk jilted perv.

But if this band actually has a female member that is mentioned in the ad? That is irresponsible, and I now agree with those who said to take down the ad and stern warning to the idjit drummer...
