Dishonesty/Deception in band promotion

Yeah, it's really cool until all the "pervs" figure out what happened. Don't look for any good press to come out of that.

So what? Some perv is going to publicly admit he was duped to go see a band be use he was beyond desperate? To anyone? Even pervs have pride. I wouldn't worry about it at all. PT Barnum said it best...there's one born every minute.

I have no respect for anyone who would post such a transparent, and pathetic ad, thinking it would boost attendance. I would expect any band that would place such an ad to be very bad, desperate, and not worth going to see. I feel sorry for anyone who would read the ad, and think that it would be a reason to attend the performance.

Yeah with all respect, I think it's kind of funny and the sort of thing that makes a great story. These days it's an almost impossible feat to get people out to see live, local music.
If I honestly thought that would work I would do it before every gig.
I don't think anyone is really harmed and you could better direct your indignation towards the current proliferation of pay to play, pre sell tickets and any other usurious practices that are suffered by musicians.

No, but how do really feel about it?

That's simply not true.

I'm happy for you that you have such an orderly worldview, and I hope it's working out well for you.

There are two kinds of people in the world:

Those of us who are above judging others, and the rest of you, who are clearly beneath us.

Wait;

There are two kinds of people in the world:

Those who think the world can be divided into two kinds of people, and those who do not.

Wait;

You think there are neither scumbags nor non-scumbags on TB? And aren't you judging me?

Is this for real? I mean, if there is an actual female in this band, and this story is true, this could actually place her in danger. I find it unimaginable that an adult male would place his female bandmate in such a predicament.

"Hey baby, I followed you home from the gig. Where's your red headed friend?" :(

Is this an all male band? Fine, call it a funny stunt, but be prepared to defend yourself against a drunk jilted perv.

But if this band actually has a female member that is mentioned in the ad? That is irresponsible, and I now agree with those who said to take down the ad and stern warning to the idjit drummer...

There is a female band member and it is her birthday. Four of the five of us, including her and her boyfriend (guitarist), live together so if they follow her home they've followed all of us home and we're no stranger to scrapping. I feel like it was a shortsighted move on his part, might lead to a funny story down the line, but my main argument is one that's been brought up a few times here. I feel like it cheapens the band, especially since we can typically draw 30-200 people without having to resort to deception or gimmicks.

My first thought was that if this demonstrates the creativity of the drummer, then this may not be someone I would want anywhere near my ears.

Okay, fine then. I revert back to my opinion that it's a goofy gag and anyone who acts on it deserves what they get.

I was in a band once with a female front and she was single and lived alone, so.... my imagination defaulted to that scenario...

As far as it reflecting poorly on your band... who's gonna know? I would think no one, except Merv and the pervs.... :p
