Ok all you parents out there. I'm debating about taking my girls to Disneyworld later this year. My mom keeps saying they're too young yet. They'd be just 4 and almost 7. Airfare from Ohio, hotel, and tickets, we'd be looking at $1500 to $2000. Any opinions?

I don't think they are too young - your 4 year old might not remember it all - but take pictures and video for her.

I am planning to go as well and my kids are the same age. And honestly - you can go again when the little one is a little older too. They are only little once and if you have the funds and can do it - I would go - never know what the future holds IMO.

You are never too young or too old for Disney World.

Clue your kids into the fact that Micky is 5 feet tall though. Most kids have this mental image of Micky being small and when they see the 5 foot tall mouse coming at them some will freak out pretty significantly.

Everybody should go at least once and stay in the Magic Kingdom. Disney does things right and from just about any angle it is impressive. I recently saw a "How they do it" type show and the underground the public never sees is really cool. I vote yes. :hyper:

Regardless of their age they will have a blast.

I agree thugh the little one might not remember, but she will have a good time.
My parents took me there when i was 2, 6, 11, and the most recent 15, so obviously the one i remember the most are those from when i was 11 and 15 and i just dont get tired of it, the place really does have a magic, the moment i go in there i turn into a little kid.

But now i want to go to magic mountain in Valencia, Cali, that Tatsu ride is killing me, i wanna ride ti so bad

I think 4 might be a little young. When we took our kids, the youngest was that age, and got pretty tired out. We stayed at the Polynesian and would take the monorail back to the hotel for lunch and a swim, have a rest and then head back.
Oh, and I think $2000 is wildly optomistic on the total price, unless you're just staying a couple of days.

I disagree with your mom quite strenuously. We took our then 4yo to Disney Land, Disney Cruise, and Disney World in 6 weeks. (Don't ask) A great time. She was young enough to know that it was all real, not fantasy. Did she spend a lot time in her stroller? Yep. Does she remember any of it? Nope. Do I care? Nope. Did I get some good pix? Lots of them. Would I do it over at that age? In a New York minute.

Plan on post lunch naps. There is too much to see & do. You will all have more fun on their schedule vs. trying to fit "everything" in.

The one suggestion I would make is try & stay at one of the hotels that has the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, because the bus system can be a challenge.

Also, make sure your place offers a sit down breakfast. Otherwise you will stand in one line to get your food, another line to pay, find a table, and get drinks. Personally, I hate cold eggs.

Have fun & take lots of pix. It's a blast.

My son was 4 the first time we took him, is almost 13 now, and he still loves it. He's not interested in the same things anymore, but he still has a blast.

No, it's not that we're swimming in money and take him there a few times a year. However, my wife travels a lot on business and also does a lot of business in Orlando. So anytime our son has time off from school and she's going to be there anyway, she'll cash in frequent flier miles and take him and my mother-in-law with her for a few days. They enjoy the mini-vacation and, quite frankly, so do I! ;)

Last year we took mine at 4 and 6. Not too young at all. Granted, the 4 year old's memory likely won't retain all of it, but we didn't take for what she'd remember this time next year.

Temperment: depends on your kids. Ours didn't need a mid-day nap, but they did get somewhat fussy towards the end of the evening (dinner time or so). Generally, there was enough going on to keep them from going off. We did have one late night on a boat with some characters that whipped them, but there's no way we could have precluded that with a nap during the day; they just have too much sensory overload to turn it off during the day.

By and large, Disney World is not a vacation to me (too hard to find decent beer), but my kids love it so much we'll be going back next year.

We went when my daughters were 3, 1, and 1 (twins). The oldest remembers the trip, and she was actually big enough to ride stuff like the Epcot Test Track (which scared the crap out of her). The little ones sat in their stroller mainly, but they were big enough for a couple of slower rides and of course there are a lot of play areas for kids of all ages. They could have spent all day in the dino dig area, which is essentially a big pit of small rocks.

So, they'll enjoy it, and will probably remember it. However they're still at an age where they might have just as much fun at a local park or bouncy house place.

A four year old will need a stroller and probably need to return to the hotel room mid day to rest. An almost seven year old(in other words six year old) should be able to walk mostly on her own, but might also need to rest mid day. Sounds like a lot of work for the parents. If you're ok with that then go for it, they will love it!

Grandparents live in Orlando soe every year was Disneyworld for summer vacation. Because of your kids' age I would say the magic kingdom has the most to offer them.
My advice.......go during the school year to avoid rediculous lines. If you have multiday passes carry snacks and drink water, go back to hotel (if your hotel at Disney) for meals. Don't pass anything up without checking it out. BRING SUNSCREEN!!!
