Distortion to replace XXLB

I grabbed a Jekyll and Hyde yesterday and tried it out today. It is going back tomorrow.

The loss of bass with that pedal, even with the bass boost on was unacceptable to me.

Do others hear the same thing with these?

Crap.

Just did a deal on a 2nd hand one.
Won't have it til next week.
I might use a line selector to blend in some of the clean signal if the bass loss is annoying me.

Penny Pedals sells a DS-1 modded for bass that I've had my eye on for awhile: Link Removed

On the Fatman front, if you don't want the oscillating side of the pedal, he will make a single stomp version of just the distortion side (at a reduced cost, and I would hope reduced size).

The DNA Analogic Bass Dragger needs someone to look at it and give us quality feedback ;)

I've been trying to get a hold of someone at Penny Pedals, as I like the soundclips they have posted. I just scored a mint-condition DS-1 off craigslist, and would like to get it modded or mod it myself. They haven't returned my messages, so if someone has better luck than me let me know. Maybe they don't like Canadians or something.....:)

Okay, I got a hold of Matt from Penny Pedals (should have been more patient :hiding:). I'm going to send the stock one I scored from craigslist to him for the mod. He charges 40 dollars when you send him a DS-1 (including parts, labour, return shipping). I'll give a review when it arrives back to me. Sounds great with the clips on his site!

Man, I need to start getting kickbacks...

Had the Bass Dragger at some point. Sounded like a pretty smooth sounding overdrive to me. Not so much a distortion.

Okay, so I didn't expect this, but I think my new Prunes & Custard will replace my Tech 21 XXLB for the time being.
It covers that biting upper mid response very well but isn't as noisy or nasal as the XXL.

The XXL has this big bump in the 800Hz to 1k range that is WAY too ganky for my tastes. I did cop some great sounds with the XXL and a chorus on my solo recording, but I'm not digging it for playing live. I'll probably keep it off the board, but in the collection. Maybe I'll ship it off to Grygrx for a review if he's interested.

Not only that, but I think I might take the P&C and the MessDrive out of the blend loop.
