First, be careful. If you are already carrying three boxes, resist the urge to pick up your Xtra large 40 lb pedal board. I saved it from falling, but my panic grab broke a toggle switch on my PURPLL. Next, before you start to dismantle the guts, TAKE PHOTOS, MORE PHOTOS THAN YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED.
So, the PURPLL has 4 circuit boards, one on top for all the jacks and power, one on the bottom for the foot switches, and two stacked in the middle with all the stuff. Connecting these various boards are three ribbon cables. As I started to disconnect the ribbon cables, a little voice in my head said, "take a picture", but then another little voice reminded me that the molex style connectors are designed to only fit one way, you can't plug them in backwards, it just won't fit.
So I gingerly dismantled the boards, extricated the broken switch, and installed the replacement. No obvious fails, I'm home free.
As I'm reassembling the boards, I discover that the ribbon cables only have plastic connectors on the ribbons, the receptacles are bare prongs. I used the inherent folds in the cables to guide me, and put it all back together, and, Massive hum, bypassed or engaged. Eventually I was able to figure out which cable to flop, and all is well, but I wish I had taken a picture.
Addendums: PURPLLs are in stock for $180 at Montreal Assembly. If you have ever thought about trying a PLL, this is a no brainer.
I've had mine for a couple of years, and I don't know how I missed this. There are 4 banks of dip switches for modified behavior. So the bonus of making my own repair is a new swirling spiral of dip switch experimentation.
