highschool rocked.

i went to an awesome school (cherry hill east) that had (still has?) an awesome music program. i had three music classes every day, plus jazz combo every morning before school, rotating music lessons at least twice a week (broke lots of rules with those :)), jazz ensemble after school once or twice a week, pit orchestra when the drama peeps put on a musical (at least once a year)......

besides that, it was quite a diverse group of people that i got to interact with on a daily basis. some of the classes/techers sucked, but overall, an enjoyable time!

Good point.

Simple example....writing research papers. In junior high, I remember being assigned a topic and then taken to the library where a large cart full of all of the books related to the subjects we were assigned laid out in front of us. In front of the class stood the teacher ready to show us how to write the report. We were also given a sheet of reference works to help us with our report at home. Jump forward to high school, and I remember getting an assignment to write a research paper on a subject related to the theme of the class and then being told to have it done in one week or so. This was also before the internet was widely used, so it involved me going to the library after school and work to do my research.

Something like that happened in High School vs Junior High for me. In JHS, we were told we were going to write huge reports in HS. In HS, we didn't do anything.

Class choices....well, I am sorry you did not have as many choices as we did. I remember sitting down with my parents and spending quite a bit of time deciding on my electives, as well as other academic classes beyond the basics.

Yeah, I've been told that there used to not be as many required classes, so you could take electives if you wanted. My electives consisted of a semester of PE, I think shop, and I think an extra year of Japanese. Everything else was required.

Yes, I have gone to college and it is more difficult that high school to be sure. Not way more difficult, but just another step up to prepare me for this here real world.

I should probably answer my own question.

To be honest, I hated it the first year because I miss my friends. I went to completely new high school and I didn't know anyone. My classes were a lot of work, I wasn't use to the new responsibility (I was in honors). I slacked through Junior High and managed to do well.

Socially, it was alright. I had a group of friends I would eat lunch with and sometimes we would do stuff after school. Now 3 years after graduation, I only talk to 2 people from my high school.

Academically, I did ok. I got into University right after high school. I wasn't planning on going anywhere fancy, so I only applied to the local Universities.

One thing I wish I did was to listen to myself more and my parents less. I went on the path that my parents decided for me. They talked me out of doing what I wanted to study in University. In my University, it's easier to get certain programs straight from high school than to transfer while in University and it's easier to get good grades in high school than University.

My advice? It is what you make of it. If you join everything and get involved, it might be more fun than if you let yourself think it’s a waste of time.

When I was in highschool I was girl crazy, so being in a huge building full of girls was my kind of place. I wasn't analyzing how much I was learning, but I came away knowing a hell of lot more than when I got there. The classes were good, had some great teachers that I loved. So yeah, I liked highschool a lot. And for Poops; I HATED physics, I don't know how you do it.

High school for me was a very unpleasent experience. As I am a physically smaller person, I was constantly pushed and shoved around not to mention made fun of. As a result of this never ending harassment my self confidence was crushed to the point I did not want to be involved in any school activities and on weekends I waited dreading Monday's. It was when I entered junior college and following university that people began to treat me for who I was and not an object for their entertainment and bullying. I became interested in bluegrass music and won a national championship in Nashville Tennessee in 1985. I've been to 2 reunions only to see the same groups having a good time while others stood around hoping someone would talk to them. I will not attend anymore when another reunion comes around. We had our two children involved in school musical/theatre productions and loved watching them excel. Its nice to see young people have success when given a chance and not be hurt like I was. We taught our children respect for others and do not take other peoples crap. My feelings towards my high school days after 32 years has not changed at all.

After granduating, I felt like everything I learned in HS was a waste because I had to retake all the same classes to get general education requirements out of the way. Note: I passed every single class excepting one. To have to take the classes again after passing them is high school was galling.
I was also an outsider and were it not for the music programs, I would have probably had a horrible four years.

I hate high school. 90% of the people I'm forced to associate with every day are idiots. Intelligence is seen as a negative quality. Only the people who get wasted every weekend and are dumb as rocks are seen as cool. The amount of hypocrisy is sickening.

The only thing I'm enjoying are my AP classes, since they're actually challenging.

I got wasted almost every other day at high school, was i dumb as a rock? Probably for that part, but as im currently doing my degree year in biochemistry kinda shoots down your stereotype :p

High school was lame, only about 5 classes did I actually learn something, mostly AP classes because they actually had good teachers. Outside of class I had a blast though, sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Okay well no sex, but I had some nudies back then.

I laugh at people who say "these are the greatest years of our lives," laugh I say!

Looking back (25+ years ago) I liked high school. At the time, though, there were some rough parts. But looking back, I tend to filter those out and remember mostly the fun parts. Chasing girls, trying to find beer (and other stuff) and no "real" pressure.

If you've seen "Dazed and Confused" - that's how I remember high-school. It's not exactly how it was, just how I remember it. :)

I once got suspended twice in one week. As soon as they told me that my punishment was not being able to go to school for a day, I knew what I had to do. I went to school anyway, just to get lunch for a dollar and hang out w/ my moron friends.

the next day a teacher approached me and accused me of going to school when I wasn't supposed to. I denied it, and I acted like it was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever been accused of.

Short answer, no.

Ah, but here is the problem. You're currently majoring in biochemistry, which means you must be pretty intelligent. Thus, you do not meet both conditions of my stereotype, and thus, you would not be seen as cool at my school. :p

I guess that just depends on who you are. For example, I'm going to be taking 5 AP classes next year, so I'll be buried in work. Conversely, some of my friends will probably wind up with 2 or 3 study halls per day and will do almost no work.

Different strokes for different folks, eh?

My high school sucked. I'm from a small town and there were only 88 in my graduation class. The only music programs available were marching band and jazz band. The latter was really only a side project for the band director so it wasn't readily available.

As far as any other trade courses, there was ag mechanics, building trades and a beautician's course. It was podunk as podunk can get. Good thing I went to basic training less than a week after I graduated. At the very least, I got to see places I never would have otherwise.

I've been out of school almost 20 years now and have never gone to a reunion. My parents have lived in the same house for 30+ years and my mom works for the school system, yet I hear from other people that the reunion coordinators can't seem to find me. HA! The more things change, the more they stay the same.
How can there be a reunion when we weren't even united in the first place?
Anyway, good riddance, IMO.
