Do I really need another one.

What, no 6 string?

Yeah, but they didn't have LPB ones.

"Do I really need another one."

No. One quality bass is enough, unless you do studio work, are on a world tour, or didnt buy the right bass the first time.

Buying a new bass will not make you a better player, no matter how hard you want to believe.

There were a couple of jam sessions where folks would come with several new instruments in cases and show them off and describe why they were so great. But they couldnt play them...... Very Awkward.

Lol I love how this thread has become a parade of people talking about THEIR collection and THEIR purchasing habits.

For OP who's happy with their 1 bass, they don't need another one. A P bass could be cool to have along with their jazz but is not necessary. All depends on the context of their playing - gigging? Recording? Lounging at home? Etc

No you don’t need, but it is never wrong to get a P bass.
If the bass speaks to you, and you can afford, it is perfectly OK to buy that bass.
If you worry whether this is an impulse purchase, give yourself 2 weeks time. After 2 weeks if you still miss that bass, go and get it.

If you are playing fine with one bass and don’t have a need for a different sound for any gig or situation you are currently in, I’d wait. Unless the P you played ha a “this is the one” vibe to it. I play a P myself so definitely understand you wanting one. It sounds like the one you found may have a slimmer, more jazz-like neck?
Anyway, unless you think that P you played is magical, just wait for the one that truly is.

They have quite a collection now because they’re old and rich.

When I started, having more than one or two basses was unheard of.
Well, he's only talking about buying a second one, so that's two. You were calling that "collecting". A bit extreme.
I believe some people can play and enjoy having several basses at the same time.
