I'd say no you don't need it, but two basses is pretty modest still. As long as it won't spur you into a shopping addiction.I've only ever owned one bass. It's a great Jazz bass that I play almost every day. I play with flatwounds and like them. I have recently tried a Precision with flatwounds. I started on a Precision and the neck size is not an issue. My Jazz is a American Original and the Precision is a Vintage II. Part of me is saying get the Precision with the flatwounds and put roundwounds on the Jazz. The other part is saying " do you really need another bass as the Jazz is doing it for me".

...and a crash helmet.Jaco only needed one bass.

Having two basses is not hoarding or collecting and they are different animals. Why not? You can always sell it.
What, no 6 string? What's need got to do with it?

Different strokes for different folks!
For me, variety is the spice of life. (and FYI none of those are the same, the ones without inlays are fretless)
There's that and, who the hell cares what Jaco needed...Jaco had multiple basses, the exact number depending on the time frame. He used to practice on a fretted, and perform on the fretless.
