Do it right, just do it or don't do it at all?

Hey folks,

here is the situation: I currently have three basses. I have a little studio space where I keep the instruments I use for recording. I kept two basses there and the third one at home for practice and noodling. Now a project has come up and I need (well, I want) that third bass in the studio as well, meaning I don't have a bass at home. But I need (well, I want) a bass at home.

Here are my options:
- Get one of the other two out of the studio (NOT an option)
- transport the third bass in between studio and home (not thrilled about that one)
- buy a Squier Sonic Precision. It is cheap and would be easy to upgrade later on if I wanted to use it more seriously. Not the biggest fan if the P sound, though
- buy an Epiphone 60s Thunderbird. Always wanted a bird and that thing really looks cool and sounds good, too. Problem is I can't really justify spending that much on a bass right now and would maybe have to save up for six months or so

So, what would you guys do? Just donit and get the Squier now, do it right and save up for the bird or just make do with what I have right now?

Hi Micha :)

You can't wait another 6 months? = You have GAS!!!

Not the biggest fan if the P sound, though

I am sure that someone will tell you to sell all your basses, get a P bass

and string it with flats to record everything. (after all this is TB)

buy an Epiphone 60s Thunderbird.

Not what I would buy, but it's your GAS :D

So, what would you guys do? Just donit and get the Squier now, do it right and save up for the bird or just make do with what I have right now?

Sell a kidney and get both!:roflmao: ( give in to GAS)

The Tbird is what you want.

keep an eye on the used market.

But… A decent P is cool. The bottom rung Squiers don’t do it right. I always am surprised by mexi Fender pickups whether trying them out myself or seeing some other band live (“hey man, I’m a nerd, that sounded perfect. What’s it loaded with?” “It’s a stock MIM.”)

I obtained one before CoViD used for $200 and it’s pretty great.

I’d go bargain basement shopping at Guitar Center online used gear. If your have patience, you can get a better instrument for less money. They come with a 30 day money back guarantee, so if you get one that isn’t all that, take it back and order another one.
