Do other Bass forums hate TB?

I've been on other forums. One, not bass however, which is moderated waaaaay more strictly than this, and I think it actually gets kind of ridiculous. I've been warned a bunch of times, and almost banned for things that were absurd. Recently, I responded to someone who asked why there isn't any negativity towards a certain something. I said, "because its we're not allowed to say bad things about it....", And I got a warning. The moderator there (the one who warned me) is a former member here, but told me once he couldn't handle the lack of moderation here.

Other forums that've I've been to seemed to have a lot of 15 year old trollish kind of nonsense, cursing, and just plain ol stupidity. Having seen both sides of things, I actually now think that talkbass has the perfect amount of moderation. It stays on topic, yet there's lots of room for opinions, argument, and fun.

I like it here. I've no problem with those who don't like here, not being here. I'm certain I wouldn't want them here.

Those threads are 3 to 4 years old.

Here is the deal.

I frequent another niche forum that is very loosely moderated. There is one standing rule and a think a few other rules revolving around racism and homophobia, but there is little to no censorship and admin generally gives people the benefit of the doubt that they can act like adults. For the most part the people over there are relatively cool and the banter is enjoyable. Surely there are pissing matches,...but they are dealt with as swiftly and justly as pissing matches on TB. I much prefer the looser feel of that site over TB.

That lack of moderation probably helps to keep that site small and niche and that is probably what contributes it to being a forum where I feel like I fit in more.

TB is a huge site and it's inevitable to be some people who become disgruntled and that will be what tends to lead to griping about TB on other sites. I've become disenfranchised with TB myself at times and that's usually when I take a break. I've gotten into my fair share of pissing matches and probably made a fool of myself on occasions so I acknowledge the give and take that exists there.

Eventually however, I'll lighten up,...get back on the horse and operate within TB's rules and I usually find that I enjoy my time here.

You've only been around a short while. Give it time and you will realize that TB has it's fair share of gremlins as well.

Let's just just say he seemed to think everyone had problems. Turned out it was him and he didn't quite get that.

I really wish there was an active guitar site with the same overall mentality of Talk Bass. Talk Guitar hasn't been active the times I checked. The Acousitc Guitar Forum seems to be about as close as it gets, although trade our Fenders for Martins.

Our mods are very reasonable. I found The Gear Page's mods to be a bit harsh and think some of them probably wouldn't be allowed to be mods here and might get themselves banned. They'd let their friends be total turds, but ban other people. :scowl:

^ Yes, I love it here too Joe. There are all kinds of people from different parts of the world with a lot of different ideas about basses, strings, space elevators, cats and life in general. Despite our differences we have some great conversations and fun.
I'm even accepted here. :hyper: I have become friends with people who seem to be my polar opposites. They are good people and they keep me thinking.

Yeah,...there is a bit of a belief amongst that TB is Fender/Ampeg only; but that has always struck me as hyperbole.

I'm sure that is an inevitability due to the popularity and ubiquitous of Fender and Ampeg but you can't paint a picture with such a broad brush.

Same here! I use to go to other forums....guitar orientated....but I knocked all of them out of my favorites about two years ago. I've found that even if I need to know something that is more guitar oriented I can get a good answer here.

TB is the only forum I go to anymore.

This is a huge forum and you can't please all the people all of the time. So, inevitably on a big ol' place like the Internet there will be some people who don't like TB. No problem.

Back when I first joined I was really pleased to have found such a great resource with (by and large) very friendly and helpful people. Since then, I've got to know many folks online and in person (I've crossed the Atlantic on three occasions to attend GTGs) and it's still one of my favourite places to hang out.

As far as moderators go, we are all wonderful people. Then again, I could be biased.
