The Bongo was the second Bass I owned after a Fender Japan built Marcus Miller Jazz Bass. I saw it on the cover of a Bass training book (published in Germany) and fell in love with it‘s design. After the billion copies and about 70 years old P-Design and the 60 years old J design (which both have a kind of a „craftsman“ design) and of course Steinbergers/Spectors NS Basses - in my eyes and to my knowledge this is probably the only Bass you can really speak about a „design“ (and in fact it has been designed by a BMW designer / design team) - it‘s just made with so much love to detail, the two cutaways, the Headstock (which reflects on the form of the cutaways), the „half moon“ fretboard inlays, the available colours. I know that for some strange reason Bass players in general are more traditional P/J kind of people and don‘t fancy innovative designs. For me the Bongo is a true „modern Classic“ and I‘m glad EB keeps producing them. (Bass-)technically, it is also probably the most versatile serial bass (allowing HH, H, HS PU setup) with an on board four band EQ (I don‘t know any other serial produced bass, that has that on offer). It sounds different from a Stingray, has an insane playability (to my taste) and a flawless built quality (as all the US-EB Basses) - and for what is on offer it got a decent price. For me the bass for the island.
