Every single one I've picked up has played and sounded really excellent.
I would rock one on stage, even though my preferred color, white, would definitely not look right on that bass for the obvious and oft stated reason.

Same kind of piling on was happening about Markbass' black and yellow color scheme.





Point being: WHO CARES? Like what you like, play what you want to play, and **** the dumb****.

Here's my Neptune Blue Bongo HSp w/mahogany body and roasted maple neck. I didn't like the look until I saw one in playing position on a strap. It took about 30 seconds to change my mind. Loved them ever since.

I've owned 4 Bongos. I have one sitting right next to me as I write this. An HS. I will never let my Bongo go.

For those who don't know, if it hasn't already been mentioned... the Bongo design came from a collaborative effort with BMW. Which means it doesn't do well in snow . I'm not saying it looks like this, but I get the influence...

Things I love about my Bongo, in no particular order:

The looks.
The ergonomics and balance.
The pained neck that feels even softer and smoother than an all natural neck.
The playability.
Its easily the most agressive bass I've ever owned (and I've owned lots).
Its a lot more versatile than any other bass I've owned. Oddly enough, even more than the Big Al. I learned that when I use consider the tone controls flat at a quarter of the way up, its unreal what my Bongo produces. Its capable of great sounds even with all tone controls on 0 .
I love the 4 band EQ.
I can get it to mimic just about any other bass I know of (except strangely enough, a Stingray ).

What else can I say?

I love my Bongo.

I kinda like for some reason that some people hate them, too. Those people are few... as I'm sure this thread proves, though I haven't read through it yet .

I think they look rad! I would love to try one for the different tones, esp. one with an ebony fretboard. The one thing I know is they are built really well. Came close to picking up a 5 string and a 6 string at diffirent times, didn't happen though.

Why? Light.... resonant, the wood of choice for many of the world's most revered solid body instruments.

Reasons, man... give reasons.

Is it because it doesn't look particularly great in natural finish?

Because it's really easy to dent or, if the instrument was badly made, could have screws that pull out because of stupid design flaws?

I can't imagine any other reason.
