I was just jammin' with GFR's Live Album, more specifically, In Need, when my wife and daughter came home. They began yelling (so I would hear them) TURN IT OFF!! When I did, they proceeded to tell me how "awful" it is and how much they "hate it!" Not so much because of the volume, but the overall sound of it all.

I knew they didn't dig everything I do, but man... Such unappreciation is disappointing from those I'll be around for many years to come.

Don't mind me. I'm just sorrowfully venting. GFR is still one of my favorites.

I assume GFR is still Grand Funk Railroad? Ya never know these days as I'm still getting used to Pearl Jam and Nirvana being called classic rock or oldies.

Hold on, them damn kids are on my lawn again.

Now where was I? So what kind of music do your wife and daughter like?

Fortunately, the wife and I love a lot of the same music, and moods for both of us vary (i.e. sometimes it's Rush, sometimes it's Miles Davis, and other times it's Paul Young). My son, who is mostly into newer stuff, actually asked me to burn him copies of Slayer-"Reign In Blood", Kiss-"Destroyer", and Death-"Individual Thought Patterns" for his room. And I did take him to see Rush twice, and he had a blast both times.

None of those probs in my house, my wife grew up on hair metal and still loves, my son loves all things rock, yet my daughter loves Bieber (oh well, I tried!). I am fortunate that my 15 y/o son (A) has picked up the bass and is following in my footsteps (B) he knows as much about 70's-80's rock as anyone who actually grew up in that period - almost a walking encyclopedia. I'm very proud of my son to say the least

Yep.

My daughter digs that Disney stuff. No, I can't stand listening to that stuff. In my defense though... That's different. I'm supposed to be that way. After all, I am a father 42 years older than she. (Actually, I do make sure not to voice that--For whatever that's worth).

My wife and I do like some of the same stuff--Keltic, acoustic works from around the world, some jazz crosses over, I enjoy a good amount of classical piano and She doesn't mind some of the more tame bluegrass. I knew she wasn't very fond of some of what I play; I just didn't expect such strength in that negativity.
