Do wide neck short scales exist?

After finally hiring a real, live instructor ( had been learning online), we both decided that due to a significant left hand injury, I should try a short scale. I have limited reach with fingers, and the closely spaced frets really help. Problem is the narrow neck is surprisingly harder to play. This is a used eb-0 that I paid very little for, so maybe it's more narrow than most. Any short scales with larger width necks? Limited in what I can try in person.

I don't know about wide necked short scales... but I will tell you that a Brubaker Brute is right along those lines. It is not a short scales bass.. but it feels smaller than it is because of the design ... The neck is wider and flatter than on say a Lakeland, Sure or Fender and the bridge sits back in the body a bit .. so it feels like a shorter scale than it is.

The Ibanez Talman TMB30 is a short scale with a nut width of 1.614", only about .01" narrower than a standard modern P bass.

Gibson LP DC Jr. Bass would likely fit the bill, as would Orville's rendition of EB-3 which has - by far - the chunkiest neck I've ever played on a short scale bass.

Also, Sweetwater lets you search by many criteria, including scale length and nut width, so you can choose a scale (or a few) and then choose some nut widths to see what basses match. They don't carry every bass, of course, but it's a cool feature for exploring.

Have you tried 1-2-4 fingering on a standard scale bass? More on the injury and photos and/or video would likely be helpful....keep at it you'll find something that works!

The Supro Huntington bass has a wide neck at 1.7" and is a very nice quality instrument available in many pickup configurations.

Another option, you could at least try until you make a decision, is downtune your bass to DGCF (or lower!) then place a capo on the appropriate fret in order to play in EADG!

Although at a hair over 32.5 scale length, there's a debate to be had as to whether it's short enough to be short scale.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but what you need is a Wingbass and an octave pedal:

My Kala U-Bass has a 21-inch scale and 1.75-inch nut. Very comfortable.

I bought a Spector Bantam here on TB a while back and it has a 1.6" nut and a wide fingerboard like my Rebop bass. The string spacing is .75" at the bridge saddles. It is a fine playing 22 fret 30" scale bass. I find myself playing it more than my 32 and 34 inch scale basses. These basses are $1799 new, and may be out of the price range you are seeking. I am preparing to thin my herd and purchase another one of these basses. Well worth the cost to me, but I have never been accused of having much money sense when buying basses.

That Could be the case. I was under the impression that between fender, Schecter, Dan electro, warmoth and Ibanez etc. that there would be plenty options.

Seconded. The Supro neck feels like a short P bass. Really comfy to play.

I would also add that the neck on the Huntington is quite slim for as wide as it is, and you can get it likes to be dead straight for a low action/low relief setup.
