Do ya wear it high, or sling it low...?

I've found that playing it high increases my ability to fret efficiently and correctly...but it all depends on the bass I guess. I'd say for the most part I wear it right over my stomach. Probably at a height considered on the higher side. I feel like wearing it low limits someone's ability to play efficiently. But maybe that's just me.

I spent years playing guitar as low as I could possibly get it, because I thought it looked cool. A couple years ago, I started noticing it was easier to play the higher I had the guitar (to a certain point). Now I think people with the guitar really low look silly.

Like others have said, I wear it at Jaco height, more or less.

BTW, I didn't mean any offense toward anybody who wears it low. If you can do that and still play well, my hat's off to you.

I wear my more towards the higher side, the bottom of the body of my bass is just above my belt buckle. In my opinion, people who wear it low are morons (ehh?!) who wear it low to look cool..or fit the "image" more. Mostly I see it in rock. Wearing it high is "uncool." Too bad it's 10x easier to play with your bass higher (right around where it'd be if you were sitting down and playing). I'm hatin' on people who try to look cool right now :)

I guess I'm a "moron" who is just trying to "fit in and look cool". I guess I've been a "moron" for all 31 years that I've played....during my recording contracts....my tours...video shoots...studio dates...etc.

It sucks being a "moron". But I guess I'll just have to do my best to "deal with it". ;)

Sounds like being a moron is working out pretty well for you. Keep it up! :)

You've got to go with what is comfortable for you, regardless of what others think. And honestly, expecting someone else to "conform" to whatever your opinion is seems a bit silly to me...but hey, whatever.

Do what makes you happy. Play what you like. Play it however you like. And don't pass judgment on others because they have different "taste" than you.

:D

I dont know how people play fingerstyle bass with it up so high on their chest, only because when I try my arm and fingers cramp up and I have no endurance. I let mine hang as low as possible while still being easily playable with the fretting hand; I want my right arm as straight as possible. My elbow is always at about 120 degree angle, and its not difficult to play till around the 14th fret.

I'm 6'5" by the way, so that may have something to do with my gangly reach.

PS. why are you guys trolling on playing high or low? I thought we were still fighting pick vs. fingerstyle?

I guess i use it around my belt!
