Do you actually like EH?

however- if youre looking for a synth and you have cash to burn- youre probably not going to consider boss. the ehx one is pretty good- but if you have more cash than that- their are better options. unless i missed something- there isnt an envelope filter that boss makes that i would consider. ehx has the qtron- and its pretty good- but- again- if you have more cash to spend- there are still better options.

What does "better" mean? It depends what you want from a pedal. Boss stuff never does the ehx weirdness, but their stuff is really practical for a wide range of people. If it doesn't float your boat, don't buy it - but don't bad mouth it.

I've gone through all kinds of effects at various pricepoints, and the priciest haven't stayed on my board. That's not due to anti-snobbery or anything, they just havent worked for me often. Well-designed effects don't need to be pricey.

hmm- fair nuff. better in my opinion- or- more precisely- better for my needs. instead of using the general "you"- i shouldve gone with "i" so as not to speak for others. many of those "others" like the ehx bms- whereas i owned one only briefly (also did not do what i wanted). so- thats where my opinion is at with regard to the various synths out there. though occasionally grating- my opinion does comes with a free grain of salt- so its not all that bad.

it's just all about needs, that's all. I've rarely seen a large pedalboard that had ONLY pricey "boutique" (which often means "garage") pedals. Usually there are a couple Boss, DOD, Digitech, Danelectro, even ehx pedals thrown into the mix. That's because pros* have to stop concentrating on "cool factor" at a certain point and go with basic fucntionality.

*I am NOT a pro.

haha- wow- ya- that made me laugh. i accumulated more pedals when i was just playing by myself (house doesnt have a garage though)- and got rid of a bunch when i started gigging. recently i stopped- and have begun to build up more fancy gear. i think i just get bored when im not playing with other peoples and start looking for new and wacky noises to make. whatever the case- i think youre onto something- hadnt noticed the trend until now.

glad it made ya laugh. i dont mean to butt heads. besides you get one free pass for being in Santa Cruz, one of my favorite towns

What synth pedal are you talking about? The only higher-end synth pedal that I can think of than the BMS is basically the OS and the Deep Impact. And I have not heard either one cop the tone of the BMS. Until I hear either one do a BMS (moog)-style multi-octave super-slow filter sweep, color me unconvinced. If you can prove me wrong, please do, I'd love to hear it.

Garage pedals = 'boutique' pedals that are just built in someone's dingy garage. Not pedals accumulated by someone who just plays in their garage hehe..

yeah- got an os- and- ya- there are some sounds i can do exactly on it- but those wereNT sounds i wasnt inlove with.

i also misunderstood that- but i think its a funny generalization to state that people who hoard high end gear dont let it leave home.

havent had booze in nearly a year- so- go easy on me. happy friday yalls.

I think he means the Bass Big Muff, which HAS one. That mode isn't perfect but show me a distortion pedal with a better built-in dry blend
i think i have to explain myself...

there was a time in the not too distant past where there was no such thing as a bass big muff... where people just blended fuzz with a blender, not the ones you make smoothies with, but one of those pedals :D which probably inspired the creation of the BBM in the first place

with that being said, the BBM does a good job at blending. back then (i am having to sound like an old man which im not) results from using a big muff pi or LBM were varied and limited. in principle, when you blend clean and fuzz you get a parallel mix of both. the limitation being, whatever caused the fuzz to get lost in the mix in the first place will still cause the wet signal-aspect of the blended tone to be lost.

to give an analogy, lets say a band has 2 bassists. one is using a fuzz and the other is clean. when you adjust the blend you are basically increasing one guy's amp while turning down the other guy's. the guy playing the fuzzy bass is having problems cutting through the band. the result of which is that you only really hear the guy playing clean bass.

so what i am trying to say is, i don't care how good the dry blend is, i just don't believe in dry blend. its a tonal preference thing :) if we all had the same ears or tastes we wouldn't have so many different kinds of drive pedals

actually i don't think ehx is really 'boutique', they make many cheap nano pedals and as someone mentioned, their analog pedals aren't too expensive. it tends towards the higher end of the spectrum, but it's just that they make some really expensive effects. and i don't think a pedal can be considered boutique based on price alone. alot of the old, discontinued stuff is very expensive but are by no means boutique.

with that being said, tc electronics is rolling out a new $149 pedal, but that doesn't put them in the same category as other pedals who usually produce pedals at that price, and doesn't make them less 'boutique'

Agreed. it would be pretty silly to consider "New Sensor Corp" (ehx) a "boutique" brand

I wasn't aware anyone thought of EHX as boutique. I mean, it definitely is not a small operation. They're going around the world to promote, find supplies and prototypes and advertise.

The factory in EHX is just that, a factory. If you've seen the tour video, the factory is boxes of tubes and components all against the wall, and a long line of tables with ladies putting together the pedals. Its mass factory operation, way behind a "boutique"
