Do you actually like EH?

I'm definitely an EHX fan. Heck, I'm a moderator on their forum. :D

Not everything they make thrills me, but my current board reflects just how much I enjoy their stuff - quirks and all. Currently on the board:

Stereo Electric Mistress (nothing else I know of does parallel chorus/flanging)
XO Pulsar (the waveform flexibility allows for really unusual yet usuable tremolo sounds)
#1 Echo (fairly standard, but when the Memory Boy comes out, I might switch to that...)

I've been using EHX effects since I started playing bass, and I'm familiar enough with them that I can get the sounds I'm looking for with ease. Plus, I'm a fan of abnormal effects pedals, and EHX pedals satisfy without being exaggerated novelties or complete noise/chaos pedals.

I dont think my #1 Echo, Bass Big Muff(sold my bluebeard when i got it), and Holy Stain are ever going anywhere.

Specifically the Holy Stain. I REALLY like this pedal.

I've also messed arround on my roomate's Holy Grail and that's fun as well!

I think that in their price range... which is MY price range... they make some awesome stuff!

I found the phaser I *think* you had...

The BadStone - the SmallStone's big brother...

I know this was more $$ than the old Small Stone...

IIRC it was also a six stager, where the SS is a 4 stager with a feedback stage (the "color" switch). Slightly thin on bass IMO, but I liked it when I tried it. The "fixed phaser" (I think it's called "manual") knob was an interesting idea.

EDIT: Any idea what these go for now? I'm sure my buddy paid a lot more for his because it was in great condition (he's a gear freak), but I don't even recall what he said he paid.

I bought a Poly Chorus, thought it was cool as hell. Used it for several gigs, dug all those cool outrageous modulation options (which could be messed with in real time and really get crazy), but quickly realized that this thing was the definition of "tone-suck" when bypassed, plus it was noisy..

Too bad, really. I loved that thing otherwise.

the huge enclosure makes it pretty easy to mod for tbp though. or you could put it in a loop

I love EHX,

a BMS was my first serious pedal (after a few Behringers to try out).

they make great stuff, (though I don't like everything they make)
I currently have: BMS, LBM, BBM, Pulsar, SEM, nano small stone, and I use all of them a lot, especially the pulsar, the BMS and the LBM.

and for the price they can't be beat. except for the BMS, all the other pedals were way under 100 euro's a piece, and I wouldn't trade them even for much more expensive pedals.

currently gassing for a POG, and I postponed my purchase of a analog delay till I can use the memory boy.

half the board is EHX. everytime I go out to buy a new pedal, i try not to come home with an EHX, a practice that fails miserably so often

Anyone know where to find a schematic for the current version of the Polychorus? I'm trying to find out if it's possible to mod for cv control of the 'Tune/Delay' and Resonance. I love the flange on the Polychorus and despite the giant size I don't think it's going anywhere.

I like many of their pedals, and have a HOG, Polychorus, and English Muffn on boards currently. Many of them could definitely be better, but for the price nothing comes close in terms of sound and versatility in my opinion.

theyre a good start- not too pricey- easy to find at any website or local shop. however- ive owned a number of their products- and the only one ive kept is the hog- only because i havent found a good substitute. i have occasional clipping issues with it- and for the price and size (especially with the footswitch- without which its almost useless)- i would think there would be a better option (pitchfactor maybe?).

no offense to ehx or their fans- but i think of them as being slightly above boss gear (which i also have owned/still own). theyre good for many uses- but the more i nitpick- the more i realize id rather pay more money for something custom/high end that does exactly what i want- and not just close to what i want. im kind of over compromising i think.

again, what is wrong with boss gear? I have not been too impressed by their bass offerings, but their pedals do what they are designed to do and they do it very well. Their buffer is very good and their switch is so superior to the popping true bypass switches on most boutique pedals that it's not even funny. Many of their effects are certified classics, from chorus to overdrive (the tubescreamer was based on the OD-1). The OC-2 remains one of the very best octavers around and you can buy one for under 50 bucks. What's to hate about that?

This type of thing reminds me of the "I was into that band when they were still cooool" vibe of the indie music scene. I get it, you're hipper than me.

Yes, I like EHX. No I do not like the big muff. No, I do not consider clean tone with inarticulate background noise 'fuzz', which most people call 'clean blend'.

But the company makes high quality and pretty pedals, and have enough effects that I do like

So the OP likes the ODB3 eh?

perhaps i shouldve clarified. i have no problem with either company- and their gear does the job for most people- and the prices are good. each has their gems and their crap boxes (and for what its worth- i agree- their switching mechanism thing is as good as ive used).

however- if youre looking for a synth and you have cash to burn- youre probably not going to consider boss. the ehx one is pretty good- but if you have more cash than that- their are better options. unless i missed something- there isnt an envelope filter that boss makes that i would consider. ehx has the qtron- and its pretty good- but- again- if you have more cash to spend- there are still better options.

not everything is about money- exceptions to every rule- but in many cases- you get what you pay for. i had a dd7 that was awesome- sounded great- did most (key- most) everything i wanted. i traded up for a timefactor. the timefactor is a better unit in my opinion- but costs more than twice as much. if you dont want the extra features- its probably not worth the price.

same goes for cars. i drive a mustang- pretty much the boss of lowend sportscars. a corvette is more than twice that- and a ferrari/lambo/whatever is even more. if youve got the money to spend- know what you want and can tell the difference- then high end is the way to go. im not willing to drop cash on a super fancy car- but i am happy to waste money on cool effects for the above reasons.
