Do you have the one that could be, your ONLY one?

My American Geddy could be my only 4 string jazz bass.
My Carvin SB5000 could be my only 5 string super jazz bass.

I wouldn't want to go any lower than this. I don't even want to be down to 2.
I like to keep a Pbass with flats in my toolbox. 3 is about as low as I can go.
So my Squeir by Fender Classic Vibe 60's Precision bass could be my only Pbass.

I mean, if desperate, then yes I could make do with anything that does the 4 bass strings and sounds god and plays ok. But... no.

I still have my 1984 Kramer Duke sitting here... It MIGHT just be 'the one', but I also have a BassLab build underway ( now 15 months, and counting ) - and that one is SUPPOSED to dethrone the old Kramer. But I guess that Time Will Tell...

I went through that with my fretless Travis Bean. The Bean stayed #1 among my BGs for another 14 years or so, although nearly all my gigs during that time were actually on EUB anyway.

And at this point if I actually had to pick one bass for the rest of my life it'd be an acoustic upright, not a BG.

I've worked on building my collection over the last couple of years to a bunch of basses that I truly love pretty much equally but I would be very happy with any one of them if I had to narrow down to just 1. I have 5 fretted and 1 fretless that I regularly use. On any given night I will use at least 3 of them during my practice session. If I had to pick just 1, it would probably be this one as it is just a bit extra special to me:

Yes for me it's this bass: my 63 precision. I can only own this forever and be extremely happy.

My 1982 Carvin LB50 Koa stereo bass Taz has been my main squeeze for 40 years and still going. We've been around the world together, played music on six continents, bars to Broadway, studios to stadiums. Mom gave us a button "I've survived durn near everything" not brag but truth. This bass will do me fine.

Yes I do. Took me almost 10-years of searching to find it. Was working part-time at a music store when I went back to college in 1985 and this crazy guy traded it in because he didn't like it. It was in mint condition.

It's a 1982 Fender Jazz in Olympic White that I bought in 1985. It has a white-bound maple neck, white pickguard, white pick-ups, and white strat-type control knobs. The neck is the same shape, profile, and radius as the one that was on my 1965 Jazz Bass that was stolen in 1976 (60's Slim C-shape neck with 7.25" radius). This has the 70's era pickup spacing (4" center to center) so it has a little brighter sound than my '65 did and it growls very easily. Just a great bass and I use it 99% of the time. I do have a 5-string I'll use when called for, but my Jazz sounds better.
