I've intentionally quit playing guitar since I started playing bass a year ago, but yes, I've kept a cedar top Seagull on tap for about 37 years. If anyone who plays guitar, my friends or the kids' friends, drop by they always pick it up. Medium strings make it sound great and the circle sound hole is sort of oval now due to hours of heavy handed pick playing, especially mine.
Nope, BYOB - bring your own bass (BYOG, bring your own guitar).

I keep my nr.1 bass as near to me as possible - all the time, except parties, clubs and cinema.....

Absolutely! I never know who is going to come to hang out. I had a few over the years,recently sold my 1999 Gibson limited edition SG. Now I only have this one that I bought new in 2003. She is a Fender custom shop 56 strat...Reminds me of Clapton's Blackie.

That thought never even occurred to me. Not since I was a teenager did spontaneous playing just break out. That's just a weird idea.
Although i find more fun and joy in playing bass, i am a lead guitarist in my current band. So i always have a few extra guitars.. currently i have 11 guitars (does not mean they are all playable) as well as 2 basses. My family hosts holiday gatherings, and my family is mostly all musicians. That requires me to also keep a keyboard and a drum kit (i dont play the drums). Needless to say, if anyone wants to jam, hit me up...lol

No. Only if I somehow keep it in my house for transporting reson otherwise it all sits in my private rehearsing room.
My daughter played in her middle school guitar ensemble and I bought an acoustic-electric with the understanding that "if she practices, it's hers. if she doesn't, it's for me to loan out to guitarists who visit or play events I host."
So it's mine, for exactly the kind of scenario outlined by the OP. My brother-in-law comes into town from California on the 22nd. I have something for him to borrow if he is traveling light.

I have a gob of instruments of all kinds, and anyone welcome in my home is welcome to play any of them.
Although my first choice of instrument when playing with a band (that has a drummer) is bass, I mostly play guitar at home. I have a 1981 Aria Pro-II CS-400 electric (think Gibson SG on steroids) that I play through a Laney Lionheart5. The Laney is a 5 watt class A with a 12" Celestion. It sings, it screams, it oozes creamy goodness and is loud enough to play gigs. Hard for bass players who are used to using 800 watts (like me) to believe but a well made 5 watt class A guitar amp is loud enough to play with a band.
Anyway, usually when I have musician guests at the house I make them play four strings so I can work out and get my jollies on six.

I will be your friend. I bet that your Les Paul sounds absolutely killer through the Vox!
I've got six guitars. I'm as mediocre on guitar as I am on bass. Although most of my friends are musicians, we don't sit around and jam but if someone asks to play any one of them , they know they are welcome to.
I read your post and it made me sad for the Martin I too have sitting in a case untouched. Like the sword of Excalibur, someday a worthy guitarist player will come and pull it from its case.
