Do you know how to cook?

i love cooking! i put waaay too much garlic in everything, tho'... i'm one of those folks who will look in a cupboard/fridge and make something from whatever's in there. don't have the attention span to plan....or follow recipes.

I work in a kitchen as an assistant chef, to be honest i know nothing about food, they just tell me to make it look pretty, but i am going to be trained over the next few years to become a full chef. I do cook at home on occasion, steak, spaghetti bolognaise, various pasta dishes and out of the box stuff aswell.

black pepper is my best friend when it comes to food.

My sisters are both excellent cooks, and I've had roomies and friends over the years who were trained at the CIA or in European schools. Plus, when I was a kid my neighbors insisted that we all learn how to fend for ourselves in the kitchen at a very early age.

I consider myself fairly good for a lazy ol' hippie. I can do a really mean lasagna, a pretty nice jerk sauce, several different salsas, and all kinds of "comfort foods". I grow lots of hot peppers and I'm definitely not afraid to use them.

My wife and I both love to do Thai food and all kinds of curries. My wife also does all the classic southern dishes really well, and truthfully she puts me to shame in the kitchen.

My dad owned two different restaurants when I was a kid. He was what I call an 'intuitive' cook, as well as a wonderful guitarist and singer. I think the way he approached music was the same for cooking; following a recipe by memory and feeling what he couldn't remember. I'm a lot like that, I have a natural propensity for making dinner. I was a single parent from when my kids were 5 and 2 (now 26 and 23!) and cooking was something I enjoyed, as I got to spend time with them after school/work. I don't know if I'd ever find enjoyment in the kitchen if it was my job, but I like putting stuff together. I'm good at making something with what may at first appear to be not enough ingredients to make anything. When someone says they can't cook, I just say you haven't tried hard enough. Believe me, if I can do it, literally anybody can. I make a pretty mean enchilada!
