Yes, all you need to do is make sure that there is a good electrical connection between the ground wire and the bridge. There are different ways of doing this. One way is to apply a piece of copper tape to the body, under the footprint of the bridge, and then solder the ground wire to a corner of it. That's what you may have seen. It's not really part of the shielding, just a large flat surface area for the bridge to contact against. A bit of overkill, maybe, but it's neat and effective.
The more common way to make that electrical connection is to leave an inch or so of uninsulated ground wire sticking out that gets smashed between the bridge and the body. In most cases, that works fine. If the body wood is fairly soft, the wire gets embedded into the wood. If the body wood under the bridge is hard, then the wire may prevent the bridge from seating down tightly. That's when you may do something more elegant.
