Do you own a famous person's old bass?

And a local guitar store has Gregg Allman's amp, with documentation and everything.

My 57 P Bass was owned and played by Bill Peasley..an original member of Gene Autrey's Melody Ranch Boys. I purchased this bass from Sam Ash in Florida approximately 1998.
I tracked Bill Peasley down..he lived in Pt St Lucie in Fla and I got to spend a full day with him and his wife...He told me all about this bass and it has lots of miles on it...
He purchased the bass new in 1957 from a shop in Indiana...he played it at countless festivals and shows around the world... he also toured with Mel Torme..

I have not been able to locate him..he was in his 80's when I met him... I hope he is OK ..where ever he might be..he was a very nice man and I enjoyed my day with him..he pulled out an old scrap with book with hundreds of pix..

My 1957 P Bass formerly owned by Paul Goddard of the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Paul was also a studio musician and used this bass for session work with Roy Orbison, Joe South, the Classics IV and many others. It was also used to record the bass tracks on the first 4 ARS albums and according to Paul, "many live stage pertformances". I purchased the bass in the early '80's when he became a Peavey endorser...for $750. It still has the strings Paul used when he last played it.

Paul played some amazing solos on this bass on "Champagne Jam" and "Another Man's Woman".

Just last night it came to my head that, since Jason Newsted took his 250 (roughly, as I recollect) basses when he left Metallica (and left some more), so hypothetically each of those has a chance to be taken by his Lord and Master 1,5 (roughly again) times in a year.

So, isn't the life of 'a' (not 'THE') instrument belonging to a celebrity pathetic?

Certainly it is not as special as owning THE guitar. I think Jason Newsteds collection is the exception to what most of the people have posted on this thread. Most of the basses posted thus far are not one of a hundred owned by a celeb. Speaking for myself, my bass (Madseason bass) was probably the only axe the guy owned.

I had an old beat up P bass [three-tone sunburst finish with a tortoise-shell style pickguard and a Rosewood fingerboard] that had "FUNK" scrawled in the heel of the neck and filled in with blue ink. Man, this thing had seen better days, and I wanted nothing to do with it even though some guy told me it might'a been owned by some guy that played on some boring old music.

I walked away with a bass once owned by Morty Lipshiits, the founder of legendary Polka-Metal band, The Kielbasa Kings. Dang, I practically stole that bass. What a deal.

Too bad you didn't try selling it on TB first...

When I was 18, I bought a really thrashed black Pedulla bass from We Buy Guitars on 48th Street that had a lot of red goo on the front and in the pots and it was heavily implied that it had been used by Gene Simmons. I choose to believe it.

Yes, that was my point. (Except the "famous" instruments are older.) They have no magic attached to them. They are just pieces of wood.

I wish everyone would stop worshiping rock stars.

Possibly. To find out for sure, I'd ask over at KissFAQ.com, someone over there would know I'd guess. Do you have any pics? And, what is the pickup configuration? P/J?

Either way, those Pedulla's are nice basses!
