Do you own a famous person's old bass?

I've got a 72 P bass that belonged to Bob Rock. It's Refretted Refinished, has an unknown pickup (that sounds amazing) and
is completely relic'd out, down to the wood, lots of mileage.
I'm told it's all over the albums that he's produced. Does not
even matter to me. It's oozing mojo and plays like an extension of my hands. I will never willingly part with it.

Yeah my 1983 Peavey Foundation belonged to some guy who played in some band which recorded a few records in the 80s and opened to some big acts in some stadiums.
Blah blah blah. Now it's my bass. Sure it's well built, but, really, it's just a piece of wood well put together.
Seriously, if it's an instrument I buy to play, I'd rather buy it from an unknown teenager who decided that bass was "boring" and barely played it, than from a pro who really played it.

Man, you own the bass that laid down some sweet, tasteful lines. I love that album.
In a similar story, there's a small 'Mom & Pop' music store near me a few years back that had a Spector hanging on the wall for a while. Couldn't afford it at the time
, but on top of that it was white and it looked like someone took neon green spraypaint to the entire bass - ugh.Years later, I found out that this bass belonged to Alec Jon Such, and the color scheme was actually a custom job done by Spector for Alec (hey - it was the 80's...

)Not a bass, but I do have a Hi-Watt DR-103 that belonged to Mick Jones (Foreigner) and some bins that were Al Greenwood's and Ed Gagliardi's The Hi-Watt was modded by Denis Electronics, and actually rocks like a mother when used with my T-Birds
Here's me back in ~1986 playing at a skating rink in Austin with my cover band. I'm in full John Taylor mode, but I never saw him play a red Destroyer.

Used to own Rex Brown's popular Spector NS5, "Brownie". Sold it back as a discounted sale out of courtesy then he sold it at auction... Recorded part of my last band's EP with it, sounded great and was my main stage bass for a few years. Brought the thunder for sure.
Not exactly famous, but…

Long ago there was a mailing list, TBL, which I believe was an ancestor of this forum.
One of the members for awhile was Mr. Guy Pratt, and before he was chased off by pinheads bugging him about Roger he offered P-Bass #0010 for sale.
Unfortunately it was far beyond my means at the time, but having owned #0378 it would have been nice...

I have Allen Merrill's old Spector.
He was a Japanese pop-star, had a band in the UK called the Arrows, which had their own weekly TV show, and wrote "I Love Rock 'n' Roll", as later made famous by Joan Jett. Passed in 2020.

I sold a vintage effect pedal to a very well known bass player, but that's all I got.
This sort of thing means nothing to me . . . but . . . if I ran across one of Rudy's Arias that were modded with Alembic pickups and network, I might be interested, but for the performance, not the provenance, though Rudy Sarzo is a great dude.
It's similar to my disinterest in vintage pieces. My curiosity is peaked only for things not made any more, nor likely to be revived: 80's Japanese basses, etc.
