Do you own a famous person's old bass?

the white flying V from school of rock was (or maybe still is?) owned by a local private guitar shop a block away from my house. still has the strings that were on it in the movie..i played it a bunch of times. its a total piece of junk, but its probobly more famous than a lot of the instruments mentioned here..

too bad it was 1. a guitar and 2. i never owned it

How about selling a bass to a (relatively) famous person?

I had a Kubicki bass advertised in the St. Louis newspaper in about 1997/98. I got a call from a guy named Dan who came out to my house, checked out and bought the bass (no haggling, paid cash), and then had a nice chat. He told me about this bass company he had in Chicago call Lakland, gave me a card, etc. Dan Lakin struck me as a really nice, down-to-earth guy.

I have no idea what he might have done with the red Kubicki (it was about a '91 model if memory serves.)

This used to be Ken Lawrence's personal bass. The serial number is 0013.

Well, Ive got Tim Commerfords 1980 P bass, I think Phil Chen owned it before him? Its well used.. I won it off Tim in a bet, we used to bet football every year, my Patriots against his Bronco's. I did a lot of loos'in until the early 2000 when I finally won an F'in bet with my team, go Pats!!! Anway, Tim is a cool guy with hands the size of an elephant ears.

If anyone is interested I can take some photos tonight and post them.

I dont have, but the guy that I bought some gear off of recently had a bunch of basses, one of which I found out was played by the original bass player for Bon Jovi. It was a Fender Jazz, made out of swamp ash. He said it has been all over the world with BJ.

I just had to throw down some Bon Jovi licks for nostalgia's sake.!!!

I think it's cool that some builders still go ga-ga for their favorite gear growing up, and still search for them. Nothing wrong with that.

I remember Dan being a preEB Musicman collector, and he used to run ads in the back of Bass Player magazines in the late 80's/early 90's searching for them.
