That Gibson Blackbird is awesome....the Schecter not so much , (i play a Schecter and am a big fan, I just dont care for that one)

Considering my go-to bass these days is my Sandberg Basic 4 (with Nordstrand Big Man pickup with series/parallel push/pull and Bartolini EZQ pre) and I don't think I've ever really seen any established bassists playing Sandberg, the answer is no.

McCartney fan here - I don't play a violin style bass. I've tried various Hofner and Epiphone violin basses and they just don't feel right, in my hands. I do play a Jazz as he did during the Beatles later years (albeit, very occasionally). What I'm really gassing for is a McCartney style Ric, despite it's reputation for less than stellar quality control.

I used to, that's how I was introduced to Modulus and Lakland at 18 years old. Keith Moseley of String Cheese was the only bassist in the world to me for about 5 years so I was playing a 55-02 deluxe and Q5. Then started to twist into being a P bass guy.

A bit of the opposite for me. I've been playing a P bass for several years and I'm finally switching to a Lakland 55-01 partially because of Keith Moseley. I also really dig the Barts + an eventual NTMB preamp. I will definitely be buying another P bass again in the future though. No doubt.

I play what I like and what I was exposed to in the past. That means it most likely has something to do with what the guys in the bands I liked were playing when I was younger, and over the years is just what I got used to. With that said I play Precision basses, while many of the players I like across different genres seem to be playing Jazz basses. I tried to like Jazz basses but couldn't bond with them.

Yes. My Pedulla was inspired by Mark Egen former Pat Metheny bassist.
My Tobias was inspired by Jimmy Haslip of Yellow Jackets fame.

I don't really have a favorite bass player any more although they are many that I love and respect as pioneers in some way or other, none of them are bass stars in any way but get a great sound and play great lines, some intricate and some simple. I buy a bass number 1. because of the way it sounds, number 2. the way it plays and number 3. the way it looks although I bought my first Fender Precision, (I know) because of the guy on the red Grand Funk album. For example I have a Precision now because there were (and are) so many records out there with a great Fender P tone and I feel if you can only have one bass it should be a Precision, it was the first good bass I ever bought. I also have an EB-3 and an EB-2 also because of the many records that have those unique basses on them which sound great for that special tone they do well. I bought a Jazz because I feel everyone should have one, I bought Rickenbackers because I thought they were so cool looking and sounding. My first fretless I got because I saw a guy in a band with one, I sat in with the band in 1977 after having a few and said "Hey what the hell is this?" but liked it and traded the guy my Tele bass for his fretless Precision. (I had never even heard of one before I saw him with it). I can trace back to certain tunes and players iconic great bass sounds that probably influenced some of my decisions, for example Chas Chandler playing It's My Life in The Animals and Tobacco Road by The Nashville Teens definitely had something to do with my liking the sound of EB-2's and Rivolis, Jack Bruce and Andy Frasier and many others for EB-3's. Too many to list for P basses and Jazzes, McCartney and Pete Quaife, Entwistle etc for Ricks.

Yes and no. Most of my basses are cheap to get the job done. But one of my biggest influences in the 90s was Glenn Worf. There was an interview in Bass Player magazine with him talking about playing fretless, and a photo of him holding a 6 string unlined fretless, not sure of the brand. That was what made me want a 6 string unlined fretless. No way I could afford to buy one, so I made one. And it was my main bass for 14 years.

Esparanza Spalding - nope, not a Fender fan , not a fretless fan and I don't have the space for an upright at this time.
Thundercat - If I could find his damn bass, maybe. It would cost too much imo. But I honestly prefer 7 string bass.
Les Claypool - Not a fretless fan.

Ancient thread I started 2 yrs ago.
I’ve been through several basses since then.
I’ve finally settled on a Ernie Ball MusicMan Caprice and my CV60’s Precision.

I finally realized that regardless off what my favorite bassist play, I prefer Precision style pickups / placement .
