Do You Put Your Bass In Case Or Stand

just hanging around ... more hangers and various stands around the room ... cases are stored away to use on outings ... along with a hanging type stand ... j basses and many stands don't get along very well .. !?!

When the 1989 earthquake hit San Francisco I was at work trying to remember what basses I had out, I was under a table, duct work was falling out of the ceiling. My wife and kids were back east visiting family so of course I worried about the basses. On the drive through city streets home the shops storefront glass was bending back and forth this was maybe 20 min. after the quake. Came home and everything that was in a cabinet was on the floor. Went to the music room and everything was in a case but my stacked Gallien Krueger amp. and cabinets fell down like they were thrown. On the GK 400B the steel panel at the back of head was dented in about a 1 inch from the impact. Later I opened it up found a few loose items & plugged them back in, it worked then and still is a distant back up head today. After this long story the message is: if in earthquake country, keep them in cases. I have a Squire Jazz bass on a stand in the bed room, this bass get all the play time. I know it's kind of dumb.

I prefer a case for mine--and I still play it.
Taking it out of the case is part of the experience.
Although I do have stands that I use when the bass comes out to play & I take a break.
(Or if I switch between basses (or bass & guitar)

I have one bass. When not in use, I think a closed hard case is the best place to store it. Because of Murphy's Law, mishaps and little accidents can happen no matter how careful you are. All you can do is to try and lower the probability of it. A few weeks, a floor lamp tipped over near where my bass case was. The lamp shade struck the closed case. No damage done.

At gigs I like to put it straight in it's case the minute I finish playing. So I can grab it and run when the fighting starts. When I walk down the street with it. I like to display it on a stand. So people can see it's a cheap nasty thing that's not worth stealing.

Out of the 11 basses that I own I've got enough wall hooks to hang them all if I would ever install the dang things. Usually I just lean them against the walls. I keep two in cases unless I happen to be using them, but I don't have enough cases for all of them.
