Do You Put Your Bass In Case Or Stand

I used the stand. I have only one bass, and I like to have it handy.

I keep a beater bass on the sofa and maybe a guitar as well. There are always charts on a stand and metronome to practice with. Better instruments are in cases, especially acoustic guitars which need to be humidified or risk drying and cracks in winter.

Currently using six wall hangers, plus a pair of the triple Hercules stands for instruments I really like to have handy. Everything else is in storage (gig bags or cases...)

I presume the main is not an active bass. I did this twice (slow learner type) until I realized leaving it plugged in quickly kills the batteries.

In the case or in your hands is the Rule in my house, seen too many basses fall off too many stands, The most spectacular a Ric 4001 (not mine) that was knocked over by the drummer, headstock snapped off like a dry branch. The bassist nearly wept. Keep it in the case.

That being said, my gigging basses are beaters and I have multiple backups for them. If they're lucky I'll bring out a stand.

At home, I'll have one out for practice, leaning against something relatively stable. Everything else stays in cases. I've been through a major earthquake before. Odds are pretty good your wall-mounted basses, or basses in stands, won't survive that.

My instruments go in cases when they're traveling or in long-term storage. Otherwise they're out on stands or wall hangers for easy access. I run over them with a feather duster once a week or so, and keep my space humidity controlled.

Keeping them in a case (or display case) may be best if you don't play them and want to keep them pristine, but I'm a musician, not a collector.

My desktop picture is of my mountain bike which I've spent a while upgrading. The more I glance it, the more I want to ride it, and I do. That little goodly prompt, makes it happen quite a bit.

five of my basses live in stands in the livingroom, where i spend my time and where my amps are. they're the ones i pick up when i want to play. my husband has four of his guitars on stands in the livingroom, too. we have a 7-instrument hercules stand against a wall and out of the way so even in the dark, we wouldn't walk into them, and we have a couple of individual stands, as well - one with a guitar, one with a bass.

if i had kids or a dog, i'd probably case some and hang some on the wall.

two of my basses aren't in the livingroom; one is on a wall, the other in its case. i find i don't think of them when i want to play. two of my husband's guitars that he plays often and one acoustic for each of us are also hanging on walls. he keeps his other guitars in cases.

For me, cases are for transporting and long-term storage. Otherwise, my instruments live on stands.

Stands - easier to just pick up, play and maintain. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether convenience or safety is your top priority.

Welp- is really just a big strip of velcro... since MB cabs/combos are ‘rat fur’- sticks to it!

Unless I'm traveling with it, my main bass is always on a stand. My other basses are in their cases.

I have wall hangers for 5 basses so they're always out and ready to play. The other two live in their cases in the closet and (sadly) seldom see the light of day. Or night. Or light at all.

ll but one are stands in the basement where I do most of my practicing. We never walk through that part of the basement so it's out of the way and there's next to no chance of someone bumping into them and knocking any of them over. It's nice an convenient for me to just pick one up and they're all there so I can rotate between them.

The last one is on a stand in a spare bedroom that my wife set up as a music room for us to practice in (she's a fantastic clarinetist and our son is a former trumpet player who sometimes picks up on of my old guitars). There's no traffic in that room there unless one of us is going in there to practice, so I'm not worried about any accidents there, either.

Our son is also 22 and in his last semester in college, so he's basically been out of the house for a few years. With the nest being basically empty, I'm even less concerned accidents than ever. However, if I were to stop playing for an extended period of time for some reason, then I'd put them back in their cases. They're only out for convenience.

My vote is keeping at least something on a stand where you practice so it's ready anytime.
I have a double A frame stand that always has two basses on it which are rotated out regularly.
I also think having a favorite out is a good idea again for meaningful practice.

By old custom i lay my basses and my acoustic guitars on the string-side on my sofa or bed ... (knocked) tripod-stands are bitchy and for sure useless for my L-Berger.
