Do You Put Your Bass In Case Or Stand

I don't own any stands or hangers at the moment so it's cases or gig bags for me.
I'm toying with the idea of making a cabinet with glass doors. A display case to hang them in, keep the dust off and maybe even regulate humidity. I saw one at a store once and thought it was a pretty good idea.

Of my 13 basses and guitars I'll leave out my #1 Warwick bass, my Carvin electric and an acoustic guitar. I'm a bass player in my main band and guitar player in another and these are my main instruments. I practice daily so there's really no point of stowing them away. One thing I do with the guitars I leave out is keep them covered unless they are being played.
I'm another for hanging on the wall. My practice space is a wide hallway in the basement just outside the family room. With 4 kids playing down there all the time, nothing is safe on the floor, and any bass in a case isn't getting played enough.
In the warm days of summer I'll leave most of my basses out on my wall of greatness. Once fall turns to winter I usually bring em up stairs and stash cases away anywhere I can. If you're cold, they're cold. Bring em upstairs.
After 10 years of all my music junk occupying a corner of our family room, we moved and I wound up with it in a spare bedroom.
My amplifiers are on the back wall, the other wall has a 10 space rack I built last summer, with a few guitars, my mandolin, and my basses, and there’s a drum throne near my pedal board close to the other wall. I keep a single stand over there for whichever instrument is getting played at the moment.
My wife’s upright is in its bag in the corner behind the door, along with her autoharp.
I have cases or gig bags for everything, but they all sit unused unless I’m taking an instrument out of the house. When I built the rack, I thought it’d be fun to fill it with all my stuff, but I’m probably going to put the vintage Gibson guitars and the mandolin back into their cases. I never play them, and it makes me a little nervous when my 7 yr old daughter grabs her Squier Mini Strat off the rack.
But the short answer is: always out and ready to play. I could throw out all the cases except one bass bag and one guitar bag and be happier.

I agree with @Joe Nerve, it's totally an individual thing. For me, I live in a house with just me and the wife. Occasionally the grandkids will come over (2yr old boy and 4yr old girl currently), they have their own room where all of their toys "live". I have my own room where all of my music gear "lives", which also has a door that I keep closed at all times. The cat is not allowed in that room, the grandkids are not allowed in that room unless I'm with them. So for me, I keep them all hanging on the wall -
I find that I'm much more inclined to pick one up if they are accessible. If I had to drag out a case, open said case and pull one out it wouldn't get touched, I proved that for about 20 years.
Now, all that being said, the green Mikro on the wall is actually for my granddaughter to play. so when she comes over we go in the room together and she "plays" her bass next to me while I play mine. I plug her into the small Fender 10watt amp sitting on top of my Rumble 150 and the two of us can make noise together. Again, if i had to drag it all out it would never happen. So it's a very personal, individual decision and you'll know the right answer for you. When my kids were young and at home my bass stayed in the case and it never got touched for decades. It was a choice I made, this is my current choice now that "life" is different.

I use Hercules double and triple stands and not once have they dropped any of my instruments or tipped over. At my dad's house in his office you'll find his collection of guitars hanging on the wall. At my drummer's house, you'll find his PRS, Squier Tele, a Washburn bass and a Steinberger hanging on his wall (he uses a guitar strap to hang the steinberger)
If it's in a case.. I'm less likely to pick it up at home. Cases are for storage or travel and I don't own an instrument that I don't pick up to play at least every now and then. I have Gator GoPro gigbags to transport since I don't fly.
If I were going to get a headless bass, it probably wouldn't be the original Steinberger design and would fit well in one of my Onstage branded headless stands. Or a little guitar shelf could be an option for home use and hold quite a few instruments while keeping a small footprint.

Stand for the ones I play every day. Making practice convenient will lead to more practice. Case for the ones that I bust out for specific sounds or specific gigs. It's safer and much more practical to organize in a music room.
Mine hang on the wall. My kids are old enough that they don't mess with them, and they're up high enough that the dog can't reach. I have them in various rooms where I tend to hang out, which makes me more likely to grab one when the mood strikes. Out of sight, out of mind.
As long as it's in a safe place, in the stand is "probably" better for it. Presuming you keep the room it's in comfortable for you, it should be comfortable for your bass. I wouldn't stick it on a stand and leave it there if the room is going to have wide temperature swings while it's there.
When you move it, absolutely put it in the case. You are more worried about physical damage at this point than any tuning problems from temperature variance.
I generally put my bass on any horizontal surface that is nearby. If there happens to be a stand within arm's reach, it'll go there. The case is reserved for transporting use only.
