Usually in a case. I have this thing about dust collecting on them. If I might use it in the next couple of days, I would leave 1 out but the others are being cased with 1exception.

A case is a minor PITA since it has to be laid flat to retrieve or store the bass. I use top quality, highly protective gig bags that are leaning against the wall and can be unzipped in 5 seconds....I leave the bass on a stand only if I know I'm likely to be playing it again within a couple of hours. If I'm not sure.....it gets re-bagged.

I always bring a hard case in bad weather, otherwise soft cases are easier for sure. I have too many of both.

I keep all my basses in their cases it is much better for them less time adjusting the truss rod and they usually stay in tune

I have wall hangers at home and keep at least one bass out to plunk around on when I feel the need. The others are closet-stored in gig bags to lessen their chances of being knocked over by careless children (or cats).

Exactly. Even though they’re more susceptible to temp changes etc., they’re musical instruments that should be played. I’ve found when stored in cases, they just don’t get played as frequently as when on stands or wall hangers.

I find it helps to have as few impediments between myself and practice time as possible. All my basses are on the wall.

1. Grab bass
2. Open laptop
3. Plug in wireless thingy
4. Put on headphones
5. Play

Takes about 10 seconds.

My Starfires always go in their cases after I'm done playing because they're my babies, but really that applies to any of my acoustic, hollow, or semi-hollow instruments with bare wood exposed to the air. Here in Florida, even with the A/C on, temperatures and humidity inside our old house still fluctuate throughout the day. Only exception to the rule is my Kay jumbo acoustic which I like to keep out and ready to go when inspiration strikes.

I place my basses in their own cases after playing unless I get lazy and leave one or two out for the night.

My bass closet houses six basses which is how I control hoarding. Currently I have 5. So I do have room for a sixth...but I’ll need to sell stuff to make that happen!

I keep them all in their hard-shell cases and in a closet when not playing. It keeps the dust off, avoids temps swings, and any uv light that can fade the finshes.

I do have one inexpensive P bass in a gig bag in the corner, that serves as the quick grab for my nightly practicing.

I own five basses. At home, one or two is always on a stand by my practice rig and ready to play. The rest stay in their cases until I decide to give them some air.

At a gig, they are on the stand and travel in the case.

Since most of my guitars share one soft case and the basses share another (I store the hard cases elsewhere), a String Swing hanging system works best for me in my basement studio.
