Do you think vintage neck tints are a bit pretentious?

I don't like vintage tints personally, but I don't think it's pretentious. It strikes me about like relic-ing does. It's not for me, I don't see the thrill, but if it floats your boat...who am I to say? As long as it's not being sold as or marketed as a real vintage instrument, I'm cool.

Uh oh, all the flooring, cupboards, moldings, and trim in my house, not to mention my deck has "vintage tint" That must make me really pretentious! I am gonna have to start walking around looking down my nose and being rude to poor people. :hiding:

No offence intended to the OP in the above :D.

I think about things like that too sometimes but what you are saying is a bit of slippery slope. It could be argued that paint is pretentious etc.

I think all artificial methods to make an instrument look "vintage" or like a "relic" are pretentious. But I support anyone's right to acquire or modify instruments in that way, (unless it's being done with the intent to defraud potential buyers). Who am I to deny people's right to have an instrument that pleases them? Even if they want to throw a bass into a clothes dryer for an hour with chunks of sandstone, and then pee on it, why should I care? If it makes them happy, then they should go for it!
