Do you use effects for fun or for tone?

I could and have played without effects for a long time. My gigs don't really call for any, but I could maybe put some in here and there.

That said, I have a few I am going to try for a while and see. I'm going to use a BBE Opto Stomp with both my active fretted and passive fretless.

The fretless may get some EQ and maybe chorus or phaser depending on the setting.

The fretted may get some chorus or phaser, and I may pick up an OD of some kind as well.

All will run through my Radial JDI.

If I make use of them, I'll explore making a board of some kind.

I actually only have them for tone at the moment. I play in a band with only one guitar so I use my dirt box plenty to fill in the sound. Other than that, all I'm using at the moment is a sansamp, the para one.

I used to have the delays and phase and wah, but just got tired of it.

for me its both too, although my VTbass is always on, as is my BBE Opto Stomp compressor. Other than that, the only effect that truly seems essential in my band is the MXR Blowtorch in the verses of my band's song 'Youthinasia', i'd be very reluctant not to play that section clean or use any of my other fuzzes, nothing else works right for that section. I'm also in a 3-piece, so I have alot of room to use effects when i want.

the only truly frivolous pedal that i have and have no intention of using it in a truly functional fashion is my MXR Blue Box, thats just for glitchy, badly tracking octave-fuzz silliness

A little of both actually. I like messing around with the POGs keyboardish sounds for fun, but I use the sub octave to thicken things up a little (or a lot, if I feel like being βΘИΞКЯŲŜĦÏИĞ® :D).

I mostly just use the boost side of the Hema so I can have a couple of different levels. Kindof "rock ballad intro" level vs. "pant flapping rockout" level.

i think its a lot more on the fun side for me
i barely play without effects but i do like to mess around with them
things like delay and flanger are fun to mess with it
but i think im going to use it soon for this big solo i might do at my school
