Do you use fEARful?

Chicago is a bit of a drive for me. No dealers in CT, Closest is in NYC. I hate NYC :D

The Talkbass GTG I went to a couple of years ago in RI had something like a dozen Berg cabs available to try, and tons of other cool stuff you'll never see at GC.

NYC is really not that far from Bethel though. ;)

Who cares how many people use them???
If you want to try one out, the "overly pushy and vocal" users can be easily located and pretty much all of them would be happy to let you try theirs out. Me for instance.
I built mine without ever hearing one, and I'm glad I did. Here's my reasons:
  • I can eq it to sound like pretty much anything.
  • It can get very loud and still sound fat, relaxed and punchy.
  • It's pretty light (I think about 55 pounds).
  • It cost about $600 including some tools I had to buy to build it.
  • I can slam on the low B on my P5 with flats over the fingerboard with the tone all the way down and it reproduces the note cleanly and accurately enough the hear the pitch. I can't say that about any other cabinets I've owned.
  • It's a wonderful feeling to know that I built the cabinet I'm playing through.
  • It's bright orange.

Just for the record, other than a few TBers who wanted to out my cabinet (and Steve Clift who designed the new crossover), I've never met anybody else that owned one or has even heard of them.

Just curious, how hard were you pushing your BW's because I have pushed mine pretty hard, and never even had them start to fart on me.

Hard to say, I was using a BAM(500w @8ohms) into a 4 ohm 115tvx bw. Lost 2 like that. Lost an 8 ohm from a 215d the same way. I was down tuning to drop C and likely with a ton of dirt. "Clean" they would all fart out before the DDT came on. Also the BAM was a combo and the 210s never blew.

Strange, my BW's get stupid loud and still stay clean, but I use a lot of mids in my EQ with the bass at noon.

This poll proves it. Nearly 25% of all TB'ers use fEARful cabs. This makes Dave Green a preeminent leader in the bass speaker enclosure industry.

Sarcasm?

I'm sure fEarful users would be more inclined to vote in this pole than people that do not use them. I have yet to see one being used in "real world" outside of TB.

Looking at the 'standard' BW 15's, they have an xmax of .9mm, and a thermal power handling that looks like 350/700w. The sensitivity is listed at 99dB (1w/1m, I assume). http://www.usspeaker.com/peavey 15058bw-1.htm

The 3015LF of the fEARful cabs lists 450/900w (thermal), with an xmax of 9.6mm and a sensitivity of 98.4dB. http://www.usspeaker.com/kappa lite-3015lf-1.htm

That suggests on a quick perusal, that they're a little bit 'louder' given the same wattage, but that they'll start distorting much earlier and with much less low end than a 3015LF speaker in the right sized box.

What do you mean by real world? A player gigging on a Fearful that doesn't post on TB? I've noticed TB has a larger forum than many other instruments but any forum typically represents only a small percentage of people fitting the demographic.

Does that mean the many times I've played stages from small coffee houses up through outdoor festivals with my rig are not 'real world'? While it may be the first time many other players or the audience have seen or heard them, it usually doesn't make them less 'real' besides that mine don't have a name plate on the grill. But then, my other cabs generally got their name plates removed too.

Black Widows......there's more than one.

1505 KADT-- xmax .9mm. They're mids to be used over subs in triamped systems.

1502 DT-- xmax 2.8mm. Growly mids for bass cabs.

1505DT ( not KA )-- xmax 4.8mm. Stay clean. Used more in PA/SR stuff, but I like them in bass cabs.

All were/are pretty high sensitivity.

Looks like the standard fEarful 15/6 is going for about $1100.

That is cheaper than most 8x10s and a similar price to a large number of 4x10s if purchasing new.

They certainly aren't cheap - but they aren't especially expensive compared to other higher-end cabs.

And given their potential volume level fits somewhere in between a 4x10 and an 8x10, it sounds like a good deal assuming you like what else it brings to the table (light weight, easy to move, clean, clear even tone).

I brought my pair of Fearful 15/6/1s to the most recent Twin Cities get-together which was held about 8 weeks ago. Didn't even plug a bass into the rig for more than a couple of minutes.

The rest of the time, I was just running an iTunes mix into the rack. I swear, the setup was surrounded by people the entire time...not saying anything, just listening. Including a guy who was blind, who was there for at least a half hour, with a smile on his face.
