Do you use the Deep switch on your Mesa D800?

What amp do you use now ?

Been bouncing around lately. I picked up a Rumble 500 head on the cheap as a backup and have used that a bit recently. I like it's inherent tone, but it lacks in features that I like. Kind of thought the opposite with the D800+. Also picked up a Traynor yba300 that I love so far. While relatively light weight for a big tube head, it's still no 5lb, 500 watt burrito that makes transport a joy.

Ultimately tough, count me among the masses that wants the feature set of the Subway on a higher powered Walkabout...

I hardly ever used the deep switch on my D800, but now use it frequently on my d800+ in conjunction with the HPF and Voicing.

At home, sure. Have never used on a gig. Cabs are either a pair of Bergantino CN-112's for outdoor or larger gigs, or a Mesa Subway 115. Basses are in my Avatar, but I lean towards the EBMM Sterling or the Lakland 44-64 Custom lately.

The deep switch is wonderful. When other blokes are playing, their amps are maxing out the deep and then where do they go? Where? Nowhere. They are at max deep. That's when I throw on the deep switch. It's one deeper.

I haven't been, but I think I'll start with the "Rock Control" settings from the manual and see where it takes me just for giggles. I'm using the D800+ and either 1x or 2x Subway 112 cabs.

Started with those settings tonight and tweaked it a bit...also threw an OVNIFX Smoothie compressor in the mix - it was pretty d@mn nice. Thick, chunky, and still a good bit of bite from the bright switch. I was using one Subway 112 cabinet at a fairly loud rehearsal. The D800+ makes a huge difference - you crank the HPF far higher than you think would be needed (at about 2:00 for me) and it bumps the LF in just the right place.

I have the D-800 and two Subway 112. I use the deep switch when playing a Jazz but not with my P bass or G&L Kiloton.

I use it occasionally, usually depends on the room. It can also mellow out a dimed P bass that's sounding a bit harsh.

Funny thing. After weeks of trialing the D800+, I came to the conclusion it wasn't for me. I found it was just missing that 'little something'. And my Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 stayed in my #1 position. But....tonight, on the D800+, I've found that 'little something'. The "Deep Switch".

I always have the "Deep Switch" on when using my Active Warwicks. It Gives me that "PHAT" low end sound i want to feel and hear.

But when I'm using my passive p-bass with Barts and flats, I turn the "Deep Switch" off. I'm actually thinking of putting the Bartolini preamp back in, to see if I can replicate that "PHAT" low end i get and like with my active Warwicks.

The only two knobs I adjust between the different basses is the HPF and the Voicing.

Will the D800+ replace my all time favorite....my Streamliner 900? The Mesa has just slightly moved into my #1 spot.

That's a great setup you've got!

Slightly over a year ago in a large room local bar, I heard the combination of a GB Streamliner 900 into a Mesa Subway 215 in a country, country/rock, a dab of classic rock, group.

He had a old, stacked knob, passive Jazz into a SansAmp BDDI into the Streamliner into the 215....."no" FOH support.

I gotta say, to my ears it was probably the BEST outfront sound/tone I've heard, left quite an impression on me.

I will use the Deep switch for specific songs in a set. For example, Tennessee Whiskey always gets the Deep switch set to on.

Never felt the need to use the Deep switch live, but at home it's always on. As stated above, low volume situations benefit from that little boost of lows, at least to my ear.

I wasn't a big user at first. However, I found it is helpful outdoors and is a nice feature when playing in small venues with my SW 112 at low volumes (e.g. accompanying acoustic guitars). It helps add a little more of the deeper low end that a cab like the SW 112 doesn't naturally have and that isn't typically as full or warm at low playing volume.

Well, to be honest, I had a real good blast on the D800+ last night & never gave the streamliner a turn. So, I'll just grab a cold beverage now & then plug in the "Mighty" Genz-Benz Streamliner 900+ and see if I can create some Thunder! Watch this space.............................

EDIT: I was thinking though, a fair contest would be running an HPF with the Streamliner, then compare. (If only I had an HPF!! LOL)

You have 2 fine amps there. You're the envy of Talkbass! I know the Streamliner will deliver major booty especially with that Mesa cabinet.
