When i was younger I used to listen to punk mostly (didn't like guitar solo wanking or the 'we are the forces of evil' stuff metal brought us)
When i was 16 i loved going to see a band like Bad religion, which actually stopped a show for a few minutes because someone threw a wallet onstage (which he found on the floor of the pit),just to give it back to the rightfull owner.
Or some other international punkband who after the show drunk some beer at the bar watching the next band play and talk with fans.
Too me this is more punk than any pink mohawk or patched up biker jacket can ever be.
Punk is suposed to be the workers class music for people without a musical education, not some arena band with for 60.000 euro/dollar of equipment.
today Hiphop (not the big selling 50cents stuff about bitches and gangsters) is more punk than the safe "poppunk" the kids are fed now.
Like real hiphop the message and attitude is more important than the musical skills.
O and BTW i would kill for a bassist spot in a punkband.
Matt Freeman of rancid was the one that made me want to play bass,
You should check "...and out come the wolves" for 1 of the greatest punk albums where all songs seemed to be build around bassguitar
